One would think Stevens would step into that role, seeing how he chose to return and was rewarded with the #7. Maybe he’s too much of an introvert.

There could be something to this, but not in the way you’re implying. There is absolutely a disconnect between the players and staff this year. They have been flat in every game; the players seem disinterested at times. I think Coach O’s comments about Trump along with Ryan Clark stoking the fire has had an impact on this team. Then you add Pelini into the equation. I don’t think his in your face style meshes with the issues/feelings the players already had.

When you have a coach who's not an x and o's guy but just a motivator and recruiter and when kids are in practice confused and the coaches can't explain why it causes a kid to lose respect for you in turn causes lack of energy and confidence in the game plan

There are many other reason the D is crappy

New DC and philosophy
Moving to 4-3
Having mainly 3 - 4 type players
No spring practice
Shelvin and KV left
Lost too many players to the NFL after 2019
Lost valuable training/practice time to COVID
New and young players
Having no elite linebackers
Having only one decent DE and safety.

Maybe Bo's D needs to be simplified at this point in the season. It's obvious they are executing at a very low level. Give them something they can actually execute.

In other words we weren't able to plug and play like bama does.

If we didn't have Delta bearing down on BR and had played the Mizz game at TS, I say we would have won by 10 and we would be 2 and 1 right now. This defense may be bad for the rest of the year. I don't know how Bo is going to fix the list above in a couple of weeks.

Improve 3rd down and red zone % a little and improve Defense 25% - we might win 3 to 5 games this year. We have already played 3 easy teams. The rest won't be easy. The drop off is real, I hate to admit.

i just keep noticing a lot of the players look soooo slow. not sure if that's effort based or they just aren't very good.

The real issue is that the guy that should be the leader keeps making mental frick ups which really takes away your ability to hold others accountable for their mental frick ups.

Multiple young players said they thought Stevens didn’t like them at first cuz of how much he got on their asses in the offseason. So I don’t think that’s the issue.

I do think that 7 is fricking up mentally and it’s hard to hold others accountable if you aren’t accountable yourself.

We need to move Tory Carter to LB and have him be the vocal leader
Are maybe let him create a hole as FB's usually do, for TDP to punch that last drive in,
