Just now on 104.5 they nailed it pointing to the absence of leadership at LSU especially on defense.

We need to move Tory Carter to LB and have him be the vocal leader

Usually it is a dominant linebacker or safety.

This year, we don't really have the dominant, experienced linebacker. Cox is new to the team and his play is sporadic between flashes of kickazz brilliance coupled with out of position.
Stevens not taking the mantle, and may be a personality thing - only the team and coaches know.

I hope one emerges soon, though. . .

if the players quit on Pelini, then they quit on O. If it’s a lack of effort issue then that means they don’t respect O, not just Pelini. This has not been an issue before this year and would be a major problem. Hopefully that’s not the case.

I seriously doubt our players have quit on anyone especially O

kind of eliminates O as the problem...Aranda was a great defensive mind but we had very similar issues last year. End of the year they played much better.

Our players are young. There is no leadership on the D. If it doesn't get turned around O will make a change but it is crazy to think a DC would get fired after 3-4 games.

recent developments may have complicated things. Hope that’s not the case.

such as?

One thing Saban said years ago that always sticks in my mind... It is almost impossible to get a team that won the national title to come back the following year motivated and hungry. I think that is part of our problem.

But this isn't the team that won the national title. That team is either playing on Sunday or opting out.

I remember saying this exact same thing last year at this time.

We still seem to not be able to get over the hump of being thin/green in spots. The recruiting cycles never catch up and we can’t convince guys to stay.

How would they, or you, know that? None of us knows what is going on. An example might be illustrative:

Who was the greatest leader in the history of the LSU defense? Devin White? Mike Brockers? Pick any two you want, but I'll use these. So let's say you had BOTH of these great leaders right now on LSU's defense. You would have great leadership, right? No argument there.

Now let's say the other nine guys were Southern's second string. The defense would be swiss cheese. And you, and the idiots on 104.5, would be complaining about a lack of leadership.

The problems with LSU's defense are obvious: They returned one starter on the defensive line (and even he missed the first two games); they returned zero starting linebackers; they returned two starting DBs; they installed a new system, with a new coach; and they had an abbreviated schedule in pre-season in which to learn all of this.

But an oddity about credulous people is that they will continue to seek ever more complex reasons to explain phenomena that are readily explained by simple means.

I agree. We don't have any great leaders on defense to get in someone's face and let them know they need to step up. I think they're so young, that they are all afraid to step up. Stingley appears to be a quiet kid and Stevens hasn't played well enough to really justify being a leader of the defense.

It's because they don't know what to do either. Hard for Stevens to yell at Clark for a missed assignment when he doesn't know his guy either. Failure on the coaches.

Happens all the time, Bo and his method ain't getting through. The way this defense is playing is a fireable offense.
