philosophical argument 101....
Typical liberal- gotta try to let everyone know how much smarter you are than everyone else. Philosophical argument - have you ever said anything inappropriate? Since you have, then you have no right to criticize anyone else. Have you been guilty of the same before? (We know the answer is yes). That makes you a hypocrite. Mmkay buhbye

If any of you were in the crowds chanting "Ho-Mo-Sexual" and "Fagggg-got" I hope you've grown up.
Dude was a warrior. Hated him too. But holy shite was he good.
As if LSU was the only school doing this. Calm your tits.

ight. because it's great to have your hometown look like a bunch of classless bigots on national television.
?Not justifying it, but you probably could have replaced LSU student section with many choices in the early 90s and gotten the same chant. Things were a bit different 25 years ago.

ESPN spends that long putting together that piece and that's the best they can come up with to focus on a LSU Duke game. Wow! Terrible production.

LOL the same people who are bitching about the students chanting STTDB were in the student section canting "hooomo-sexual" back in the 90s.
I wish I could give you all my upvotes for the rest of the year.

Shaq put Laettner in his spot by telling him..."You may win the national championship, but you will never be the #1 draft pick"...just food for thought
Winning an NC would have meant more to LSU than to send a player to NBA as first pick. Food for thought!

to be fair, yelling homo slurs was a one time (or a some time) thing.
STTDB is an every week occurence.
you gotta pick your spots yall.

I know two wrongs don't make a right but considering the "victim" was Duke, look at the garbage the Cameron Crazies have done over the years: calling North Carolina's Scott Williams "ORPHAN, ORPHAN,etc" after his dad shot his mom and then turned the gun on himself, throwing Clear-a-sel bottles at Mike O'Koren who had acne.
Yet ESPN,USA Today and CBS can't praise the Duke students enough.

I love how everyone gets all up in arms about politically incorrect things said 25+ years ago.
You know what made Laettner so awesome? He loved every minute of the hate and he elevated his game because of it. He backed it all up with his play on the court. I hated him at the time for it, but the real reason everyone hated him is because you couldn't stop him. He didn't give a shite what people called him, he shut everyone up by beating them.

I was there and I did and im not embarrased or ashamed of it, wouldn't do it today but I was a student and drunk and we hated Laetner so who gives a frick

That's true. But sorry if post was misleading, was simply stating that Shaq earned something that Laettner did not. Wasn't speaking about LSU as a whole. NC's are nice but money talks when you are speaking about the caliber of players like here. Sure Laettner got paid but no where close to what Shaq got paid

I am obviously the most enlightened one here because I am the MOST offended. Name calling is the most evilest of evils.
Don't all 21st century grown arse men ball up when someone teases them or uses a poo poo word in their presence?

LSU should destroy the tapes......that would fix this problem.
Posted on 3/16/15 at 9:37 am to Manatee
Hilariously, people still think this is mostly about Laettner.
Idiots.
If LSU fans were on tape yelling NAGGER at a black basketball player in 1964 would you be proud of them?
Same. Thing.

It really was.
In the mid 80s, I attended a private middle school in southeast Baton Rouge. We played "smear the queer" during recess. Just about every cutdown involved calling someone a fig. It was the n word of the 80s.
I blame Dire Straits.

okay. so granted that it was the n word of the 80s. can we admit that history has not cast this practice in a good light?
That it's strange and a little embarassing that we d ever think it was okay? that these practices were patently homophobic? Like not allowing blacks or woman to vote?

Considering Laettner was drafted third and did win the National title. Along with player of the year and made the Dream Team....... I think he got over it. lol

Yes.
That is the implication I was making.
