Muschamp worked out very well as a solo DC after being Saban's "site manager."
UT's defense was garbage.

Behind Doors # 8 and # 9 ...........
Seems like both were readily available over a week ago. If we are "waiting" on a savior, why have we just been "in contact" ???
Kirby Smart is not coming to LSU unless he just absolutely can no longer stand Saban's abuse or if he is head coach in waiting.

I heart this. Not only because it would tear the guts out of the Bama fans.

You think so? I think most would say something along of the lines of we just got Sabans sloppy seconds.

the only reason i could see it is if he was given a head coach in waiting type deal

yea, but has that ever been successfully executed at a big time program?
Jimbo Fisher?

doubt that

Some Bama fans are/were hoping he'd leave so they could get new blood in the program.

I said it to others a couple weeks ago. Let's pull a Jimbo Fisher move at LSU.
Give Smart $2 million a year and the keys to Miles' spot after 2019 [or earlier if that is a possibility]. In the meantime, Smart gets to mentor his replacement at DC and get mentored by Cameron on offense. He did coach RBs at Georgia for a year, so that is a start.
If Smart was just a puppet at DC under Saban, Nick wouldn't have brought him with him to the Dolphins and then on to Alabama. Smart also wouldn't have lasted this long at DC under Saban.
Smart is also a well recognized name on his own to potential defensive recruits. He's young and talented and Nick might just give Smart his blessing. We've got to remember that Nick's legacy needs to start churning out a half dozen or more awesome head coaches. At the same time, Nick could keep coaching Alabama well into his mid-70s. Miles seems more grounded when one thinks of life outside of football; His personality reflects one where it'd be more important to hand off the team at its peak.

I just hope we don't move to a 3-4
Posted on 1/12/15 at 4:29 pm to Double Down
By all this logic should Oregon have no promoted Helfrich because it was Kelly's offense? The coordinator is doing more than picking up donuts even when the HC has a heavy hand in the game planning.
I would be fine with the hire but would be worried that he would want to switch to a 3-4 and if we would have the personnel to fit that scheme.

Smart wouldn't come here without being named Assistant head coach probably. I wouldn't want him here if he planned on the 3-4.. but Bama runs a lot of nickel so it's not like he's unfamiliar with a 4-3
