LSU Hoops (7-3) vs. Marquette (10-0) Monday 8PM @ PMAC

TV: Fox Sports Network

LSU plays a huge game against a top 10 team on Monday in the PMAC. Even if you don’t like TJ or are not a big LSU basketball fan, you should try to make it out for this one. Marquette is a top class team this year and all the support would be a huge help for LSU.

Marquette has started the season flawless. They have big wins against Ole Miss by 30, Washington by 2, and a huge win against then top 10 Wisconsin by 7. Overall they are outscoring opponents by very large margins and can score the ball. They have over 79 points in 8 of 10 games. They played on Saturday night so they will not have the time to prepare for the tigers, but that may not be necessary.

Marquette team stats:
3pt % - 36.3%
2pt % - 55.1% (top 10 in nation)
FT% - 70.6%
Points/game – 83 (12th in nation)
Assists/game – 19.1 (4th in nation)
Fg% - 49.9% (11th in nation)
Rebounds/game - 37.3

Starters:

Junior Cadougan (PG 6’1” 205 Jr) – 6.8ppg, 6.3apg, 42%fg, 67%ft, 0%3pt

Darius Johnson-Odom (G 6’2” 215 Sr) – 18.8ppg, 3.3apg, 49%fg, 77%ft, 37%3pt

Vander Blue (G 6’4” 200 So) – 10.9ppg, 3.8apg, 2.2spg, 48%fg, 67%ft, 44%3pt

Jae Crowder (F 6’6” 225 Sr) 17.4ppg, 6.7rpg, 57%fg, 71%ft, 44%3pt

Davante Gardner (F 6’8” 290 So) – 7.9ppg, 4.2rpg, 59%fg, 79%ft

6th man:

Todd Mayo (G 6’3” 190 Fr) – 9.8ppg, 2.6rpg, 47%fg, 81%ft

They can score the ball and don’t miss many shots. They have given up some offensive rebounds and they will not have the size that LSU will come with. They will try to out quick and outshoot LSU. They are athletic and do a good job of not turning the ball over. Overall, they are a well-coached team who does everything right that they are supposed to do. They have had games where they did not perform particularly well. They only beat Norfolk St by 2 points on Nov 21st (second time they played each other). Norfolk isn’t bad at all and will probably be a tournament team, but they were able to hold Marquette to only 59 points. LSU will have to play solid defense for 40 minutes to have a chance to upset Marquette. I think LSU can keep it close and have a chance to pull it off as long as Stringer is back in the lineup.

Prediction: LSU 62 Marquette 66

I thought I'd open this one up to some conversation a day earlier due to its nature. Marquette is a big time team and this could be a huge turnaround win if we can pull it out.

Very possible. Its hard to get students in the stands when they are out of town. A ton will be. I for one graduated yesterday so I am not sure if I can get in with my ID... I will also say a lot of students don't sit in the shitty seats they give them and sit in other parts of the stands so you can't tell.

That being said, I was hoping to open up conversation of a different type. About the game for instance.

LSU 57
Marquette 50

I like our matchup, and it's at home. We'll shoot the ball much better this game, and we'll be jacked up. Turner breaks out. Storm and Hamilton control the paint. We upset Marquette.

Wasn't when I was a student, but those were different times. Many LSU students are still from in and around B.R., but this team needs to give them a reason to come.

They could give them a reason with a competitive game against Marquette.

Problem is they are probably about 20 pts. better than us talent-wise on a neutral court and the PMAC isn't exactly a venue that gives the home team a big boost these days.

We'll have to come out with alot of intentsity and focus to compete, something we've only done sporadically this year.

I expect Hickey to have one of his best games. I think he is the type of player who will prove over his career to play his best against the best competition as he did against Kentucky frosh Teague in high school all-star games.

The X factor is Turner. He has been a bit disappointing this year IMHO. Until he can play up to the standards many here thought him capable of, I can't see us competing against the likes of Marquette.

Let's hope he shows up Monday.

Geaux Tigers!!

Marquette is currently Sagarin's top-ranked unit, they figure 13 better than LSU minus 4 for the HCV = 9ish..at least a good 4 baskets.

The Warriors(yes I'm old..and Un-PC/non-placating) have looked very slick in the highlights, Johnson-Odom and Mayo,etc.. Coupled to the learning Tigers with green and sporadic play vs ICI..

Staying with 3 or 4 buckets may be a solid moral victory? Marquette has defeated Wisconsin 61-54 in Madison-Wisc, and edged Washington 79-77 in Madison Square Garden.

It would be nice to see LSU fans show up for this game and support TJ's troops.
