We're talking about what is likely going to be a 200-300k raise, which is small potatoes to the AD/TAF to keep stability within the program. There's no one you can point to and say without a shadow of a doubt can do better and even if you can, they're either not realistic or you'd pay a hell of a lot more than what this extension will cost.

Updated: Mainieri is expected to make a decision soon (likely today) between #LSU & #Texas.

Ball's in his court.

200-300k is a big deal. I think that'll be the motivation CPM needs to recruit a few more elite pitchers, get them to campus and keep them there!

A whole carton of dumbasses in this thread.

Mainieri is a top 3 coach in the game right now. Does he have his faults? yes, but goddamn the ridiculous entitlement that LSU should always be in Omaha regardless of roster makeup has overshadowed the fricking wizardry he pulled off to get this team to a super regional this year.

In September 2015, Mainieri was given a two-year contract extension valid through the 2020 season. His base salary is $750,000. At the time, he didn’t receive a raise.

No its a cash grab. When you consider what LSU has returning next year and what stage Paul is at in his career, if money is in the same ballpark then moving to UT makes little to no sense.

I'm not using cash grab in a negative way either.

Broski The real wizardry is getting LSU baseball into a position that just making the NCAA Tournament was the ultimate goal.

What?

Are you confusing Mainieri with Smoke?

My only gripe is the timing. Next year should be another Omaha year. What if he doesn't make it again?

He'll never be fired for winning SEC games and getting national seeds. He's gotten 5 national seeds in a row. That's awesome. But that's equated to 1-4 in Omaha. I'd have liked to wait a year since he just got the extension.

we're starting to venture off to the point where people believe CPM took a shite team all the way to the SR. I'm not trying to take anything away from the job done this year, but he had 2 top flight SEC caliber pitchers and inexperienced but talented prospects. It was a good year to be in rebuilding mode because college baseball as a whole was pretty weak.

Next year should have 2009-level expectations.

It's actually kinda creepy how close this season mirrored 2008, albeit to a lesser degree.

If they don't, at the very least go 2-2 in Omaha, then he should get some flak for it. But, I don't think there are very many coaches out there who can do better with the talent and depth we'll have next year.
