When the LSU football team reached its locker room beneath the north end-zone stands in Tiger Stadium last Saturday night, the 24-hour rule was already in effect.

The Tigers had just won their second game of the season and had earned the standard 24-hour window to enjoy a 31-0 shutout of Southeastern Louisiana, a Football Championship Subdivision member, before they zeroed in on the next foe.

But fifth-year senior Garrett Brumfield, who starts at left guard, felt the need to stand up and speak after coach Ed Orgeron addressed the Tigers.

Brumfield, a former University High standout, simply couldn’t wait until their regular Monday team meeting to get something off his chest.

Then-No. 11 LSU didn’t exactly overwhelm SLU, and Brumfield wanted to make sure everyone knew what was up with their Southeastern Conference opener at No. 7 Auburn coming Saturday.

“Some people call it a speech,” Brumfield said Monday. “I was just speaking from my heart, just telling them what I think they should know.”

Good. This is a huge game for the rest of the season. Losing this game could cause the wheels to fall off. I'm glad they are motivated and know what type of game is ahead.

Somebody needs to give a speech to Brumfield. He's been pushed around a lot.

I hope the right side of the oline was listening, because they're getting their asses kicked every play.

One thing I give Coach O credit for is he doesnt let one loss derail his team, they seem to bounce back well after losses.

They didn't bounce back very well after the MSU loss. We lost to Troy 2 weeks later

Eh. I like GB. He’s a fiery guy and a very hard worker. I commend him being a vocal olineman.

He knows he didn’t have a great game and the urgency to improve is there.

This is a good thing.

It's not really breaking a rule to not do something that you're allowed to do but I get you're point.

There is a lot of talk about things we want to do on offense but I haven't seen it yet. I'll be watching to see if we really go 3,4, and even 5 wide, will we run screens, will we use Joe's strengths as a runner and spread QB rather than pro style max protect, will we get the ball into the playmakers hands in space, and will we take 8 deep shots a game.

It's hard to listen to a bunch of talk about what we are going to try to do and then it doesn't happen. I predict we attempt one or two screen passes, take 3 or 4 deep shots, use 2 WR in max protect, and fail to get playmakers the ball in space.

PROVE ME WRONG O&E.

Shhh. I enjoy the O myth making. He’s the most successful coach in the world who has actually never accomplished anything.

I agree- good! Team's first SEC game. Not everyone might understand what that entails. And Auburn. Everything is ratcheted up a notch. Everything- from crowd noize, to arse chewings, hits, shite talking, and pressure.

I memory serves me correct his first game was against AU his freshman year. He's been there. He's been to Jordan Hare (and witnessed that particular debacle). That sense of urgency, and pressure, from a peer, is needed.

This gets a big “YIKES!” from me after game two, having already had a team meeting three weeks ago... doesn’t bode well for the confidence in each other.

All the pep talks in the world won't help with scheme or abilities. Let's just hope the line had a bad night.
