Gasol also spent 5 years playing ball professionally in Europe before he got to the NBA. When he was Simmons' age, he shot 54% from the FT line and didn't make a single three point shot until his 3rd year in Europe. He made one three point shot his third year. He was 1/6 through three years in Europe from three and shot 58% from the FT line (sound familiar?). Remember when I said Gasol wasn't very good when he was young?
I'll still give you $100 in Simmons ever shoots 25% from 3 in a season (minimum 30 attempts). He's got no stroke at all, and he's in his third year in the league.
Hell, 93% of his attempts are in the paint. He literally almost never takes a 15 footer, much less a 3-pointer (1 attempt this year).
Maybe he'll improve - but I don't see it being much.

The thing Simmons has going for him is he does basically everything else at an elite level and is obviously a very skilled athlete that I think he is capable of at least developing a serviceable jump shot, which if he's able to do, would make him a likely top 10 NBA player, possibly better

quote:good point. Although, as you say, Davis shot 75% from the FT line his rookie year, so he already had a nice stroke. Ben shot 54.5% FT his first season.
I think maybe a more fair comparison to a player that is more of a stretch forward is Anthony Davis. While Davis was MUCH better shooting FTs, it took him 3 years in the league before be developed an outside shot. He went 3/21 from three his first three years, and then jumped to 35/108 his fourth year in the league.
I'd truly would like to see Ben improve his outside shooting. If he became just decent - he's literally be unstoppable.
