For everyone crushing linehan. I mean shite brady even brought him in for an interview at Carolina. It shows how much everyone on here really knows about football, they’re all crying over a record but apparently he has some knowledge coaches like.

Brody Miller tweet is interesting.

A month ago, Scott Linehan had an interview lined up with the Carolina Panthers for a position under offensive coordinator Joe Brady, @mortreport reported.
Now, Linehan replaces Brady as LSU passing game coordinator. Small world.

I don't really understand taking the job from Linehan's perspective. It seems to be a step DOWN in his career arc and unlike Brady this year, it doesn't appear to be a stepping stone opportunity for him. Unless, I guess he wants to be a college HC.
It was a great opportunity for Brady. In fact, I think LSU hoped it would work well enough that Brady may one day slide (officially) into the OC role. Fortunately for LSU, the experiment worked TOO well and Brady got opportunities even he didn't think were realistic when he took the job.
Brady (rightfully so) got the credit for the remarkable transformation of LSU's offense. But even if LSU has a really good season next year, the thought is going to be that Ensminger kept the train rolling...not that Linehan did all that much to help.
After two decades away, does Linehan, at 56, eventually want to take over as a full time college OC with the recruiting burden that goes along with? I doubt it. It seems like he was simply hired as almost a "consultant" for Ensminger. Which I guess leads to the follow up question is how long does Ensminger want to continue coaching? If the answer is not very long, then it seemingly would have made more sense to hire a younger guy to eventually slide into the position (which I think all hoped Brady would do)

Why didn't Brady hire him then?

Definitely a step down for Linehan. Makes me nervous he couldn’t not get another job in the NFL. I hope this is not Cam Cameron II.

It won’t be. Cameron was our OC. LSU isn’t hiring an OC.

It's way different from Cameron. Linehan doesn't have full control, and he's not O's best friend. Part of the problem with Cameron was that Les basically tied his fate to him when he hired him. There was no way in a million years he was firing his best friend, and they both went down with the ship when the offense continued to flop.

I understand the thread OP. But, I don't really need some other staff's imprimatur to make me feel confident in the choice.
In review of how Brady ever got here:
1) O made a DECISION to go to a Spread w/ RPO offense
2) O sought coaches to come and give lectures on the offense and principles.
3) Brady was one of the guys that came to give info
4) O's staff (including analysts) judged that Brady was good at this
5) A coach departed. O decided to hire Brady
Now....Brady moves UP in the world:
1) O interviews potential hires
2) The candidates all come in and give a bit of a "lecture"
3) O's staff (including analysts) give a judgement on fit and acumen.
4) O decides that Linehan is the right guy.
Now, not a single one of us is nearly as qualified to make this selection; and O (and staff) did not just review past "stats" from previous positions. And, when I see people quoting other fanbases as being displeased, I find that laughable. Many on here wanted to fire Aranda by mid-season of 2019.
This guy impressed the staff and O enough to be selected for his position. The same people made the Brady choice. I trust them over anything this board has to say.

What was Brady’s record pre-LSU

I'm betting LSU pays better than the NFL and it's probably an easier job for him, except for the recruiting.

probably had hit his ceiling working for the Clampetts, er, uh, Jones, if he has a season or seasons putting an offense on the field that anywhere remotely resembles what we had this past season, his stock will shoot up significantly

The problem w NFL concepts in the college game is that they often need NFL type talent.
Cameron woulda wrecked shop w Burrow.

doubt it, especially since Miles was his boss

Remember all those sideline routes we hitched about? Now go play highlights of Chase and Burrow.

I’ll say my concern with Linehan is my concern with any NFL guy coming to college.
How does he adapt to coaching college athletes whose younger and have less time
In the day to devote to football.

seems like Brady figured it out pretty quickly
ETA: lots of coaches bounce back and forth between college and the NFL

Brady had just been a GA in a very successful college offense and coached at William and Mary before that.
Linehan hasn’t coaches College kids since 2001 and the game has changed a bit. Although it seems he was at the forefront back then, it’s still been 18 years.

yeah, he was here for the perfect storm of talent, progressive thinking, and the ability to do his job without the micromanagement of some old school geezer mentality, it was an awesome year, maybe the GOAT college offense, but by no means is he some guru that is the only one who can produce an offense like that

Here is another article from Saturday down south - it is quite rational and well thought out so not sure how it will be received here
