Just saw a pic of the "Andrew Lowrey"
Definitely went to HS with him and played football with him. Goofy kid that definitely thought he was better than he actually was. I do remember him being a little bit of a prick to other kids.

I'm using quotes there as emphasis -- I'm not quoting the actual statements. It's late, this is a long thread, and I really don't care if you feel there were some shitty comments about the Marine that got busted up or not. The fact that he is a a Marine is of little value to the issue -- by current accounts, he doesn't know the driver and was merely trying to help him out.
Whether he is a racist a-hole like his friends (yes, I saw those posts too before Rummy yanked them) remains to be concluded. He *might* have deserved the arse whipping he received. But early on in this thread, there were many comments about him being a Marine and that he probably brought the beating on himself.
That doesn't offend you, I get that. You feel that someone that dodges bullets and IED's in a war zone deserves no more benefit of the doubt than a person that makes chicken tenders and sloppy joe's at your kid's elementary school. No problem. That's your opinion, and I have mine. No worries.

didn't see that. wouldn't generalize any profession in such a manner.
just meant I don't think any profession makes anyone more or less a subject to the law or to basic rights of humanity. I appreciate what servicemen do but I don't think they deserve any extra benefits or anything that aren't freely and willfully given (like a free meal or beer at a restaurant. if thats what the owner wants to do, then by all means...)

No offense -- but that's his job. He gets paid to dodge bullets and IEDs. Brave as frick, but it's his job.
