If you are talking about John Ferguson I agree. JH had some great moments, but to be fair he witnessed some of LSU's greatest moments, but I can't tell you how many times he said "Intercepted!!!...only to say "It's caught" or "Incomplete" two seconds later. He often jumped the gun and had to correct himself, which, since it was radio, was so unnecessary. It seemed to me that too many times he got ahead of himself. Great voice though...and definitely an unapologetic homer who could be critical (rightly) of coaches at times.

quote:funny, I remember John Ferguson just the opposite, he was always a couple seconds late on describing what happened, and I'd hear the crowd reaction long before he said what occurred.

But I thoroughly agree on his great voice and I have so many great memories listening to him on the radio - before cable TV televised every game.

Hawthorne was way past his prime.
I was glad to see Blair come in. I like him. A PBP guy's job is to have a voice that's easy to listen to and accurately describe the action. Hawthorne got too caught up in the moment to get that done consistently, certainly towards the end.

I was at grad school at GSU 13-15 and enjoyed him there. Now I get to enjoy him here at LSU. Put an eagle six on it!
