And nary a single chord of music came from anything except the two bands attending the games. I miss those days.

LSU's rushing defense gave up 349 yds. in ten games and Texas was a wishbone team. Do you think UT really wanted that match up?

And we’ve established that both teams played soft schedules. So LSU’s defensive stats and Texas offensive numbers should be considered a wash at that point.

It would have been a helluva matchup.

Please tell me none of you (regardless of what Paw Paw or Uncle Bob told you) think Texas was afraid of LSU?

On the day the Cotton Bowl selected Notre Dame, the SWC "home team" wouldn't be decided for three more weeks. Texas would be Arkansas 15-14, so it could have been Arkansas vs Notre Dame in the first place. As for Texas ,they had won 16 straight including a 36-13 win over Tennessee in the Cotton the prior season.

LSU was ranked #12 that weekend the bowls were selected. Notre Dame was #9. Missouri and Auburn were also ranked ahead of LSU that weekend. LSU should have taken that Sugar bid and then not have pouted about the Sugar and Cotton and taken the Sun or Bluebonnet bid(s).

Tell me again, how and why Texas was afraid of LSU?
