Why should we be on anyone's radar for making the playoffs next year?
Yeah, LSU certainly COULD make a playoff run, but I'm not sure why it's surprising no one EXPECTS the will/could do so.
1. Ogeron arguably exceeded the very low expectations most had for him going into the season, but there's still nothing in his coaching career that leads anyone to believe he is a championship level coach.
2. LSU loses virtually it's entire starting backfield and two top WR's. Now, LSU could be better at QB and there seems to be talent at WR, but there is no preseason Heisman candidate who is a proven go-to player on offense like they've had the past two seasons.
3. LSU played a pretty weak 2017 schedule and didn't exactly perform all that well against the good teams on that schedule. LSU played only 5 teams that went to bowl games and went 2-3 vs. those opponents with an average margin of defeat of nearly 16 points. Next year's schedule (on paper) appears much tougher.
Georgia is the SEC champs after going 7-5 the season before. So a quick turnaround can be accomplished. But there really is no reason to have high EXPECTATIONS at this point.

LSU lost to a sun belt team.
LSU lost by 30 points to Mississippi st, lsu's worst loss in series history.
LSU lost to alabama by multiple scores, again.
