LSU's 2018 defense is like the one unit I am objectively not worried about in the slightest, they're on coke

AIDS

We return 57% of our tackles from last year.

Also, my phone and I now have AIDS

But, even though I have AIDS, I’m excited about the defense. Probably have to get a new phone though

Lawrence was our best def lineman last year and he returns.

We're gonna be real good on D, no worries. Question is offense.

Seems like the same question every year

Terrible

We have the most returning production in the secondary out of all SEC teams

Best returning LB in the country in White and at worst defensive line talent/depth is equal to last year with most people including Aranda publicly saying it's better.

You reference those two, and you don't mention key? He was a liability most of the time he was on the field last year.

Agreed. Let's melt before we play a single game.

He was as much of a LB as he was a defensive lineman

Alabama's pass defense will fall, and they have been losing starters in their LB corps (2nd one in Chris Allen just a couple days ago).

AAuburn will be really good in the front 7 and that will mask losing Davis.

UGA's defense won't be as good as last year. They haven't gotten to the reloading process on defense yet (offense is already in the reloading stage though). Best thing is that we don't play them late and they come to us.

Can't say I know much about UF, but I still think they'll be good.

Mississippi St returns all significant contributors from a defense that was statistically just as good as ours.

This is my ranking, and yeah I know it's biased.

LSU - I just think we have all the pieces at every level to play really dominant defense.

Bama - I can't place them lower than 3rd, although I think their defense takes a step back for the first time in a while.

Mississippi St - yes I think they are a stout defense and they finished 3rd in the SEC in scoring defense last year (6th in total D).

Auburn - Miss St, Auburn, Bama, and LSU are tricky as I can see all four at least 2nd best but no worse than 5th in the SEC which would still be a top 15 defense in the country.

UF - I don't see them any higher, but they could switch with UGA who I have at sixth.

All these bad predictions are based on 1 thing

Ed fricking Orgeron. No one respects him and the lack of respect has been well earned.

Pretty embarrassing research on their part.

Our DL will be much improved and they called Chaisson an interior lineman.

Our defense will be filthy.

Not a chance unless the NFL moves to the SEC.

Agreed

He has to prove people wrong and build capital that he doesn't currently have and shouldn't have

Am I the only one who didn’t realize that Gilmore’s stats were this good? 7.5 sacks for a DT

Bring it. They are about to look stupid.

quote:

Why? Because they’re losing 9 of their top 13 leading tacklers, including standout defensive linemen like Arden Key (20 sacks past 3 years), Greg Gilmore (53 tackles, 10 TFLs and 7.5 sacks in 2017) and Christian LaCouture (66 tackles, 8.5 TFLs and 6 sacks in ’17).

So teams can't get better if they lose players? I hate this mentality. Just because you don't know the next guy in line, doesn't mean they aren't good.

They just list who left the team and if their replacements are much better it counts for nothing to them because they are unknown to them based on past performance.

So you want them to blindly state the line will be better without past performance by the guys that will have to step up this year? You realize we are relying on guys no one has seen play a snap for LSU right?

I always hate arguments based on who left. You gotta look at who is there. Pretty common sense.

The guys left often have little or no playing time. It is also common sense that media, particularly national media will not be as excited about recruits and other inexperienced players like fans.

So Georgia loses players but they have talent that just needs seasoning. LSU loses players so they’ll be worse period. Love that logic. I get the doubt about the offense but come on dude, do your research

Yeah, that's a pretty short-sighted and ill-informed prediction.

I think the whole country unanimously agrees at this point that Dave Aranda is a proven commodity.
