Have they been relevant since Don James left?

The Dawgfather left after 1992 season. Our dawgs have had quite a few big wins since then.

Off the top of my head these are the better wins I can think of:

1994 beat a ranked Ohio State
1994 Whammy In Miami, snapped Canes 58 game home winning streak.

1996 beat a highly ranked BYU team, QB'd by Sarkisian.

2000 defeated Miami, gave them their only loss for the year.
2000 won the Rose Bowl, finished ranked #4 or #3

2001 I think this is year we beat a highly ranked Michigan if I recall.

2003 beat #3 WSU in Apple Cup. Funny few years, WSU had three 10 win seasons in a row and Udub beat them all three LOL.

2004-2008 sucked big floppy donkey dong.

2009 beat #3 USC, Pete Carroll made a grumpy face at Sark and stomped his feet.

2010 beat ranked USC again, back-to-back years.
2010 defeated ranked Nebraska to win Holiday Bowl.

2011 Remember The Alamo! Lost the bowl game, but Keith Price outplayed the Heisman Trophy winner and made national news. He made a name for himself.

Just wait until you see what we do to your AC on the sideline for Saturday night.

You are bringing your AC aren't you?

Kickoff should be about 88* and about 70% humidity. And all of that nice humid air's going to have been sitting there, marinating that wondeful noisy stadium all day. And,don't forget the Gatorade!!!!!!!

Didn't they have Pac-10 refs in that game? Why would Pac-10 refs cheat for us?

Bwahahaha, I came into this thread expecting a handful of blatant missed calls and a 2 point victory. I think a better title would be:

quote:

UW fans Think LSU Cheated to Turn a Close Game Into a Shellacking that Leaves Husky Anuses in Severe Disrepair

Could an admin please correct the title?

Seems like irrelevance.

We almost had more big wins last season than you have had since 1994

I'm sick of all these awful threads. Those that start threads with blatant made up facts should be flogged.

The guy's account was pretty accurate regarding how the game went, but he was a bit off on some of his off-the-field things...

quote:

we were the first big team, I think, to play them there since the famous 1979 USC game

We played then #1 Alabama later in 1979 after the USC game. We played Florida State in '79, '80, '81, '82 and '83. Alabama was still a big deal in '81 when we played them.

quote:

Thousands of temporary seats were added for the UW game

No temporary seats were added. The student secion just swelled to more than its normal capacity as students crowded into the aisles. Back then, students didn't have to have tickets, we just showed our ID at the gate and they punched it and let us in. The fire marshal did say that this would not be allowed again, as it was dangerous and there was no way you could have evacuated the student section quickly if there had been an emergency. The attendance for the game was 82,390, when no other crowd in Tiger Stadium history had reached 80,000.

quote:

we set the record attendance at Tiger Stadium for at least the next 10 years.

Yes. It remained the record until the east upper deck was added, if I'm not mistaken. There were some seats added in the old structure over the years that pushed capacity to near 80,000 and some crowds went over 80,000, but we never eclipsed 82,390 until the east upper deck increased capacity to 91k+.

quote:

After a heartbreaker against Bobby Bowden the week before, LSU needed to beat us to save coach Jerry Stovall's job, at least for the next few weeks.

Stovall's job wasn't in jeopardy at the time of this game. He had just taken us to the Orange Bowl and beaten Alabama (for the first time in 11 years) the previous year, and the close loss to Florida State in the opener was hardly cause for alarm. He did get fired at the end of the year, but only after going 4-7 overall and a first-ever winless (0-6) run through the SEC. Even that probably wouldn't have been enough to get him fired except for the fact that Bob Brodhead was the AD then and would never hesitate to fire a coach who was underperforming. To his credit, the coaches he hired were usually very good.

But, at the time of the 1983 Washington game, nobody was seriously talking about Jerry Stovall's being on the hot seat.

Big difference in a blowout and a game that was close.

Don't think we have played an SEC team in 20+ years, except for LSU in 2009. I could be mistaken though.

By the way, we kicked Florida's arse in the 1989 Freedom Bowl:

I was there that night in 1983, LSU totally dominated the game.

No need to cheat when LSU's OL and DL out classed Washington's lines.

BTW a Washington fan was up in U-19 with us and thought the Huskies would come back and win at half time, I told him to look up at the score board and double that and that was the outcome.

Lame. You lost 40-14 to the only team in LSU history to not win an SEC game. Well done.

Stoval years. It was before the information age. No telling what happened.

Can tell you that you're safe this week, we play people straight up. It's Alabama teams that know how to reach refs and replay officials on their cell phone.
