You picked an odd year to try to pick apart the Tigers.

If Hess goes deep into innings in SEC play...watch the hell out.

We have offensive firepower 1-7 and Broussard hit 400 for a while last season. Hughes got a few clutch hits as well.

I think there are holes in the lineup. I think the Broussard/hughes combo leaves some to be desired.
By "holes" do you mean players who won't hit 0.300? I need you to define this because both of those players will likely hit around that number if not better (especially Broussard).

I wouldn't put money on them in crunch time
So 2 of the 9 starters may not always be clutch and you think this is a reason for disappointment? Do you know anything about the lineups from the last 10-15 national championship teams?

And even with the new bat era I still think we lack some pop in the order.

I think there is potential in the pitching staff, but your going to count on a lot of parts that are unproven.
This is simply false. It's one of the most experienced and talented staffs in the country. Not only do we know our starters and closer from day 1, we have multiple pitchers who can take up slack if anyone gets hurt or isn't successful in his role.

Marceaux may be the next Aaron Nola, but even Aaron had rough outings in sec play.
Wait stop. Did you just use an Aaron Nola comparison... as a reason this team will disappoint? Seriously? Wait, seriously?

just have to see how they adjust to the bright lights.
No. Way. You mean they have to actually play the games? frick outta here.

We just need 2 of the 6 one of which being Mathis or Garza.

I'm sure we find a 1B out of one of the other 4.

The freshmen class of DiGiacomo, Bianco, Beloso, Willis, and Dugas haven't gotten the attention as much as the pitchers but it's a very solid foundation for the next 3 years.

I think Beloso and Willis will yield the most power and either of them will start at 1B.

Bianco has been tearing it up in the scrimmages and minus a few errors at 3B has played well.

Mathis and Garza are ready. You just have to hope at least one of them can be consistent hitting wise, defensively they are fine.

Gosh, ell, I've been posting on the Rant for so long I can remember the time when YOU were the Negative Nancy regarding LSU baseball.

I'm pleased to see you've come over from the Dark Side.

I'll be in midseason form soon. The first hit and run called with our leadoff guy on base in the first inning, and I'm going to lose my shite and call for the shutdown of the program.

In all honesty, last year I checked out knowing the team would be hard pressed to make a run after Smith got hurt and both Broussard and Watson had to fight through injuries. I really did think Feduccia would be better than he was and would eventually figure it out. So we had no C, no SS, no 3rd pitcher, and hurt 2B and CF. I don't see why anyone would be pissed off about results.

Even 2017, I couldn't blame anyone for what happened in Omaha. Walker gets hurt, Reynolds did as well as he could, bad call at the plate, Slaughter and Coomes lose their damn minds. Even with Walker, I'm not sure we beat that Florida team with all that talent playing as good as they were.

So here we are in 2019 with a truly stacked team. I love all of our players from top to bottom. Mathis will be serviceable. The pitching will dominate. The bats will get hot and cold like they always do, but there's way more than just 2 or 3 guys you can count on. We can even live through an injury or two in multiple spots.

Finally, Goatbrera.

isn't that what preseason is for? We have parts that should they come together could take us a long way, But this CWS final or bust mentality is asinine.
Right now I think its reasonable to expect a regional host and TOP 8 seed. But once you get to Omaha its all about whos hot and whos not.
We just have to see.

These are two completely different things. Do you expect to get to Omaha?

I think last years Oregon state team was top to bottom one of the best teams ive seen. I don't think we are that good. Omaha is a very good probability. But again, very early, lots of development needs to take place, and have to stay away from the injuries with the pitching staff

I think they and Giovanni DiGiacomo are ready. Some of these players could start for other SEC teams but will see a lot of bench time for LSU this season. One of my concerns is keeping them around till next year.

Yeah I think you are reaching a little. Fans are excited. We have proven players coming back..our defense should be spectacular. We have offensive production coming back. We have three impact newcomers at a minimum coming in. We lost almost nothing from last years Super team.

We should have a Friday starter, we have a depth of arms we have not had in a long while.

There is no reason to not be optimistic. This is as good of a NCAA lineup as there is this year.

There will be plenty of spots available for them to compete for next year. We will likely lose 1 or 2 per usual, but I doubt lack of playing time this year will be a determining factor.

So much of our preseason hype has been based on the assumption that Hess is going to take a major step forward; however, I don't see why everyone is absolutely convinced that's going to be the case. He was extremely inconsistent last year.
