while the pitching wont be up to last years standards, the hitting will be far superior

poised for a repeat in the last series at Blatt

After last week's Purple and Gold scrimmage, Mainieri went over a few areas of uncertainty leading into spring practice which begins Jan. 29th. Delatte won the 3rd base position, Dean won the 1st base position, and Watkins won an outfield spot.

I am a little dissapointed that Matulis hasn't won a spot on the weekend rotation. The outfield will be ridiculous on defense. I am surprised to see Dean winning the first base spot, it seemed like he had indicated that wouldn't happen and he would be in left field.

Here's one from the BR Advocate. LINK

I didn't see one on the T-P's website.

Nah, he said they wouldn't leave him at DH, he wanted him to have a spot on the field. There was nothing said that really specified an outfield spot.

Or he asked for it.

Dean had said in an interview that he would try first base but if it didn't work out, he would go back to playing left field. He didn't seem real confident about 1st, so I took it to mean he would probably end up in the outfield.

This is quasi-topical but, as a USC fan and someone who is skeptical of any southern school (the hillbilly factor), there has never been as entertaining and exciting a series as last year's NCAA world series. LSU played some great games.

That tends to not offend them at all.

He's good enough to bump Mahtook from center?

I meant no offense. You have to admit there's not much urbane about the south.

Back to the real issue, LSU's baseball team, you had a great team and in my opinion it is harder to win a national baseball championship than a football championship. There are so many ways to lose in the world series. I think LSU can win it again.

If Landry's toe heals, as expected, he will be in center and Watkins will be in LF.

I prefer Landry in LF, Watkins in CF, i don't want Landry in CF over Mahtook.
