why has opening day gotten earlier and earlier? I thought the reason for the later start and having all teams start the same day was to make it "fair" for the northern teams?

Good point. Earliest opening day since 2007, when we started February 9. I'm not complaining, though.

Just the way the calendar falls. Next year opening day is Feb. 19

I can't remember do the moveable holidays have anything to do with baseball, or does the NCAA just randomly pick. I know Easter and therefore Mardi gras is super early this year.

The calendar may be set now, but in 2008, we didn't start until February 22, and it's been earlier every year since, so there's been some change since then.

this is what i was thinking. i like the idea of the season getting here quicker. but, the earlier start means more cold weather games.
