Ok for those not familiar with how these types of searches work, there is really good news here!

When a search takes this long for a high profile job there are usually only a few things that are probably happening.

1. The powers-at-be have not being able to zero in on the right candidates they feel are right for this job.

That is obviously not the case with names like Bianco, Godwin, McDonell, Vitello, Corbin etc... being bantered around

2. The job itself is not that desirable as the powers-at-be think it is.

That is obviously not the case as the LSU Baseball HC position is one of the most desirable positions in all of college baseball.

3. There are specific reasons, i.e. coaches team is still playing in tourney, that the position isn’t filled.

The reasons could be infinite, but the most likely reason is the coach they want his team is at the CWS.

4. Money, facilities, position etc... not being as “coveted” are as illustrious as the powers-at-be believe it is.

Again obviously not the case as LSU is a destination program in baseball.

Are there other points that could be listed, obviously yes but those are the main points especially for this position hire.

What I am saying is, slim chance that any coach not still playing is the primary target at this point cause there would be a deal in place and announced by now. The last thing you want to do with a high profile hire is to drag it out.

So it is a pretty safe bet at this point to look at the coaches at the CWS and conclude it will be one of them unless they turn us down.

Vitello

I think this season will end up going down as his best season ever. He’s not the guy.

Every year the team that comes out of nowhere has the hot coach, but to a Ranter: those don’t matter, only this year’s hot coach matters.

The job and facilities may not be as great through the eyes of the rest of the world that do not bleed PG. Baton Rouge and Louisiana definitely are not the most desirable either.

He would’ve been that guy last year too. They were 15-2 when things shut down.

Pretty sure he has taken a horrible program over and has turned it around. This is not his only year of success. He is not a flash in the pan

The Tennesse baseball players love to play for their coach Tony V. That says a lot as they play hard for their coach, the LSU players can't say that about their throw me under the bus coach.

Woody just do the right thing for the next 25 years and hire Vitello!!!

Once again, think Michigan 2019. But tbh, I wouldn't be mad at Vitelleaux just to see the idiot Tenner's melt.

Moo State’s facilities are head and shoulders above LSU’s. There are some other SEC programs making investments in their baseball program as well.

Long story short, to get THE GUY, LSU will have to dish out the money, and guarantee some upgrades to the box to get that tier 1 coach (Corbin, Vitello).

If they don’t commit to upgrades, we are looking at tier 2 coaches (Godwin, O’Connor).

Without dropping serious coin or upgrades, we are in the tier 3 coach bucket (Bianco, others).

What makes you think we're not offering upgrades? Everyone knows we need them.

Including Woodward. Especially Woodward.

It’s a great job but it’s not as “desirable” as most people on this board think it is. We aren’t this juggernaut program like we once were . With the right coach I do believe we could get close to that again. Pay would be top tier. Facilities are on par with most top programs but not the best. Living in Louisiana is far from ideal.

Not specifically about that, but I truly feel like the meeting was more exploratory than anything else. Pat Casey is a great call if you're looking for consulting.

Tier I doesn't include Vitello

Upgrades aren't needed as much as just changes. Make the park more "fan friendly" and stop catering to a crowd that doesn't show up til the 4th Inning (and sometimes not at all).

It's only undesirable because the pressure is so high. I don't know of another job in college baseball that carries such high expectations.

Not what Vitello is, look at his Tennessee’s record and the 3 years prior to Vitello and the 3 years “plus Covid year” and remember we are taking Tenn.

He has proved he can recruit and coach and within the first for years of his coaching he has brought the Vols to the CWS. He isn’t the hot coach or flash in the pan. His record proves that.
