I'm going by what I've read. Poche is said to stay in the 90s. I remember Bouman being compared to Cotton, but that makes me think offspeed not slow.

A left who gets in the 90s is not considered soft tossing. Your prototypical lefty sits 86-88 and is "crafty".

Yeah when I think of soft tossing, I think of someone that tops out at like 82-83.

Or you're Rodon who is having an off day if he hits 95

You could very well be right about their velocity. It's not like I've had a gun on them.

poche's writeup on lsusports said his fastball sits in the 90mph range. but i take that with a grain of salt. i know a lot of people who saw him in HS and said his FB wont blow people away. I guess we'll see.

Bouman i was going completely off the Cotton comparison. I really dont know much about him.

Yeah, but your Rodons and Randy Johnsons surely aren't the norm.

I can't remember where I saw the Poche comment. It wasn't lsusports though. Of course, the writer could have gotten his info from there.

But getting back on topic, it is odd to have 3/4 of your starters be lefties.

I'm not talking about any of our pitchers. I just don't consider someone who sits in the upper 80's soft-tossing. But you may have a different definition than me.

Shoot. I'm trying to think of the last time we had 2 LH starters on the weekend.

When I think of "soft-tossing lefty" I think of Jordan Rittiner.

Mike Sirotka and Ronnie Rantz.

Just kidding, Rantz was never a weekend starter.

As for a statement earlier today, someone said that they thought our starting pitching could be better this year than last? I don't know if we can replicate that success. We remember Eades for being shaky the last month of the season, but for the first 3 months of the year, he was pretty, darn solid. In fact, he was more dominant the first month of the year than Nola. Now it did take several SEC starts for Glenn to settle in. So if we could be more consistent with the Sunday starter this year, we might could balance out not being so dominant on Saturday like last season.

Don't forget that last year we hardly ever needed middle relief on the weekends. Our Nola and Eades got to the 7th inning of almost every start (until late for Eades). We really only needed Boojwah and Cotton in the pen to finish off wins.

In 2010, when our pitching was shite and we used 7 or 8 different weekend rotation combos, there was a couple of weeks when we used Jordan Rittiner and Chris Matulis.

I just made 2 consecutive posts that involved Jordan fricking Rittiner.
