I'm not sure if this has been discussed, but has anyone mentioned potential injury ramifications of having two different playing surfaces side-by-side?
I know artificial turf mimics real grass, but it seems like the sudden change in surface may affect play of the ball/how fielders move.

I guess losing to jacksonville taking a superbowl contender down to 2-11 will cost you a job.
Saban to the Texans obviously. the timing is right.

The affect that the turf will have on the game will be very minor if any.

I didn't think so. I did some research this year for an article comparing real to artificial turf.
Injury stats for artificial are significantly higher, but the stats from the study were over the course of 10 years (I'm aware that artificial turf now is considerably more sophisticated than it was 10 years ago).
I just wasn't sure if footing would suffer.

As far as the warning track, it has always been a different surface from the grass area, so it will just be a different different surface.

Turf has definitely come a long way. The hard shite that used to be in the Superdome was like sandpaper laying on block of cement. With the new rubber surface, it feels like you are standing in your front yard. Plus it's just the foul territory. I've seen fields with infield turf and outfield grass, and obviously schools like Tulane have the all turf.
The major concern I guess is an outfielder who is running full speed having to change playing surfaces, but that has been going on with warning tracks and bullpens for a century. If anything it will feel like grass to grass, with the artificial having a more spongy feel.

I've played baseball on an all-turf field and on a partially-turfed field. The new stuff is almost unnoticeable. The biggest problem was the heat coming off of it towards the end of May. Running is the same (some players don't even use cleats on all-turf fields), but sliding/diving takes you further because the uniform "rolls" on the rubber pieces rather than gripping well.

This is one of my concerns. A full sprint into foul territory to snag a fly ball - player slides, but underestimates the distance because of different play surface.
I'm sure the difference is probably negligible. Just something I've been mulling over.

I get the concern, but you are probably over thinking. Are you worried about them sliding the extra distance into the wall? Misjudging the ball because of the slide thus dropping the catch?

The effect really is minimal especially with these surfaces being on the edges. It is much more of an issue for fields with full turf infields. Second base becomes a problem because runners slide often and "pull up" the rubber so that it sits on top of the artificial grass causing players to overslide the bag.

A little of both. I'm not, by any means, saying the turf shouldn't be laid. Just something I've been thinking about.
Also wondered if the play of a ball hit into the corner of the outfield would change (deaden or liven the motion of the "rattle").

A ball that is fair and gets I the corner won't have much on it anyway. But this got me thinking: kids will love this. Pop ups that fall on the turf will probably bounce in the stands instead of being deadened by the grain of the dirt.
