Alabama did... i'd love to see LSU play there one day provided Hawaii is semi-decent... when that's the case they're a legit program worth at least one trip there, unlike a UAB or North Texas...
I was there when they had their crack at an SEC power in a bowl though

Several teams travel to Hawaii, including Wisconsin, USC, and Alabama. You can't place traveling to Hawaii in the same category as traveling to other unranked, smaller schools like North Texas because yes, it's a destination game that players, coaches, staff and fans would enjoy.
I wouldn't want to play there every single year, but it would be cool to go there once. Also, it wouldn't take away a home game like the Dallas/Houston/Atlanta kickoff games do because it adds a game, so all of you "neutral site haters" and "if there isn't eight home games on the schedule I'm getting ripped off as a season ticket holder" theorists can rest easy.

I think the attendance would depend on how far in advance people are allowewd to purchase tickets and make travel arrangements. Coordinating with season tickets would limit the time to make the necessary arrangements and reduce the number of people who would attend.
Game time would probably be an issue since a mid-day local time start would be awfully early for the biological clocks of Louisiana residents. But it would make for an attractive game for television purposes with an early evening start for an SEC audience. And the television revenue should be sufficient to cover LSU's travel costs.

also it's a great recruiting ground... lots of talent at some positions on the islands

Alabama did only bc they were on probation and couldn't go to a bowl. They added the extra game to the end of the season.

This...LSU already has a hard enough schedule to throw a trip like this in.

Retarded idea, will never happen. LSU would lose money on that game no matter how you look at it.

So I'm guessing you wouldn't be making the trip

I have always wanted to visit Hawaii
LSU played Southern Cal at the Coliseum in 1984,
so we flew to Maui for a week first, flew back to California and caught the game on Saturday.
Before the game, USC announced..."And now introducing the most famous mascot in college sports
...The USC Trodan Horse. Since LSU fans thought it would be Mike the Tiger, we booed that poor horse without mercy. He got skiddish and they had to bring him back in never to return.
Beat their Trojan asses 23-3. :beatdeadhorse:

also I would have liked to see the June Jones run and shoot offense against LSU... if they're just another vanilla offense, the appeal of playing Hawaii goes down A LOT

If LSU played Hawaii at Aloha Stadium, how many would actually fly out and attend? I would go, I have always wanted to visit Hawaii but never had an excuse to go.
Honolulu sucks. I wouldn't waste all that money to go to Oahu.

You've never had an excuse or reason to go to Hawaii? What about the beaches, scenery, weather, etc., etc.? Isn't that the reason MOST people go to Hawaii? A football game is a reason to go to South Bend, IN or Norman, OK, (i.e. places you would likely have no other reason to visit) not Hawaii.

x1000, that's the biggest drawback, why not play in Houston, if you want a big filthy city, with really shitty traffic, crime, panhandlers, overpriced hotels and restaurants?

Although it would be fun, there is literally no upside for LSU as a team or school. They would be playing a patsy team and spending a shitload of cash to do it. Down vote.

It's just one game. It would be fun to get out of the "norm" for a week and go play a game in Hawaii.

You'd lose so much money making a trip like this, especially if it means giving up a home game.
agreed. it would not make financial sense. And, that , my friend, is the bottom line.

Did Wisconsin, USC and Alabama lose money when they travelled there? Did their programs collapse after trips to Hawaii?
Not a big deal.
Not a big deal.

Did they do away with the extra game if you go to Hawaii? Why would it take away from LSU financially if it was just an extra game?
