You are completely wrong. ULM publicly acknowledges that they WANT to be known as ULM. Just like the link another Cajun fan posted about ULL wanting to be called just "UL," ULM has a statement specifically wanting to be called "ULM."

So there are no 2 schools WANTING to be called "UL."

Ok, U LaLa it is.

I can only speak for myself, but I've never spoken badly of ULL or their fans with any of my friends. I love the city of Lafayette, I rooted for ULL in their first ever bowl game a couple years ago, and I just think the animosity is overblown.

As for the name, I don't think the name of the University should be changed, because the current name reflects the status of the University better. It's a regional state university with more of a focus on undergraduate education than on research. I know that the University of Louisiana System doesn't officially designate any of its members as a flagship institution, but it's pretty clear that if any university in that system was to be considered Louisiana's second flagship, it would be LA Tech. They have more postgraduates and higher profile research. I don't know if any ULL students take offense to that, but it's not a knock on ULL. Universities within a state shouldn't compete academically, they should each try to fill complimentary needs, and ULL best serves the state by remaining ULL and catering to the acadiana region of the state.

I've never had any ill will towards ULL. In fact, I've always viewed it just as I do SLU, ULM, UNO, etc.

The name thing just seems ridiculous to me, however. The insistance of being called "UL" just screams inferiority complex. It's difficult to comprehend people complaining about their university being called its actual name.

As a side note, if there were a flagship campus of the University of Louisiana system, wouldn't Louisiana Tech, a school with a better academic reputation and larger endowment, be a better choice than ULL?

Umm, maybe you should rethink your postion. UL has a significantily larger academic endowment and annually spends more on research. So much for that "clear" second flagship.

UL has a larger endowment than La Tech. What screams "inferiority complex" is giving a shite what another univeristy decides to call itself!

CST is replaying the ULL vs FAU sun belt championship game right now in case anybody wanted to watch our regional opponent in action. No, I don't know what channel CST is on the dish network

And at what point exactly did I mention actually caring what ULL wants to call itself?

It is not mutual. At all. ULL isn't even on the radar for most LSU alums.... Have you ever seen the old '60s movie, "The Mouse That Roared?" That is ULL in their jealousy of the flagship. Never had a problem with ULL.

As a native north Louisianian I can tell you that we see ULL as closer to Northwestern State than we do LSU

If there is any school in the state that has the means, IF ALLOWED, to compete with LSU, it's UL-L.

WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ????

Read my post. UL-L supporters claims the state legislature (which favors the causes of LSU) prevents the school to get in a position to compete with LSU in athletics. They feel the name change (which LSU was against) would help in this cause.

Somewhat off-topic, but since Louisiana Tech was brought up, it may be worth noting that La Tech is the only University of Louisiana system school designated as a Tier 1 National University. ULL and UNO are both listed as Tier 2 schools.

Other Lousiana schools competing with LSU in athletics.... got any more good jokes. PS... nobody outside La. knows what a ULL is.

Seems like it comes from both ways. LSU seems to feel threatened when ULL does well.

Uhhh No... Lived in Lafayette and graduated from LSU... LSU couldn't give a care about SLI, USL or ULL (whatever they go by these days)

I don't think LSU fans think much about USL until they start talking junk. But it's not even a remote possibility that USL will ever be able to compete with LSU. It's nothing more than a pipe dream for them.

Just my 2 cents.

ULL is one of those schools like USF, FAU, FIU in Florida... just another school in the state.

The "university of louisiana" thing is funny - stop trying to be something you're not.

I'll pull for them though - no hate there
