Man it feels weird being the highest ranked SEC team. I keep re looking at the rankings trying to see who missed.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stanford ends up winning the pac 12 but right now you have to appreciate Utah destroying Oregon on the road and beating a good Michigan team.

I mean if we're going to give LSU credit for smashing crappy auburn and winning on the road against a pretty good msu team...

I read that was Oregon's worst loss at Autzen since 1977 IIRC. Oregon might've been overrated, but they just don't take beatdowns like that at home.

I'm interested to see how the Northwestern-Michigan game plays out next week. The Cats have been quietly impressive, particularly on defense.

So tell me again how Florida beat the team that beat bama but they are still behind them. Writers should not be voting.

That's what ticks me off about polls. Ole miss should still be ahead of Bama. UF should be above them both.

Tbh I'd probably put Utah #1 right now. They've looked better than anyone so far

I don't disagree, but that should have happened last week. It is a bit comical that Utah picked up 6 first place votes and passed us while sitting at home.

I'm good with the LSU rank... But come on... UGA loses to Bama and drops 10 spots and Ole Miss loses to #25 UF and they only drop to 14 and Florida goes all the way to 11? A lot of these seem impulsive and make no sense to me.

Beating Oregon 62-20 in Autzen is arguably as impressive a road win as any team this year.

beating 3-2 Oregon on the road is not more impressive than OM beating Bama tbh.

Also, if Utah was going to jump 5 spots, wouldn't you think it would happen after the actual win over Oregon and not after a bye week?

IIRC, Saban has lost 7 times at BDS. Oregon has the same number of home losses in the same time frame. The Ducks might not be up to normal standards this season, but they don't lose at home often, particularly by 40+.

I would think it would happen after a handful of higher ranked teams lost and Michigan steamrolled another opponent, which is what happened.

The Bama win was impressive, but Georgia has a history of crapping themselves in this situation. Oregon being beaten by 6 TDs at home was certainly more surprising.

That's not how rankings work. It's all about how the teams around your ranking play. Utah benefitted from having #3, #6, #7, & #8 lose, while #9 LSU looked shaky in putting away an inferior opponent. Couple that with Utah's strong resume at this point in the season and they deservedly end up at #5, based on their play on the field.

That's one way to look at it. Another is to consider that Bama had 5 turnovers and Ole Miss was barely able to hang on. This game may end up looking like more of a fluke as the season plays out.

Understatement. Unless Kelly comes back they are back to an average program.

Bama loses at home, Ole Miss beats Bama on the road and loses to UF on the road, Bama 8, UF 11, Ole Miss 17,

...seems legit.

That's debateable. They're both looking pretty strong thus far, but Baylor has a complimentary rushing attack (#3 in CFB this year) to go with it's passing attack.

Against SMU, Lamar, Rice and Texas Tech...

Baylor is fool's gold to me until I see what they do in November.

I don't know why people are laughin at Utah being ranked where they are. They act as if Utah is Fresno St or something. Utah is a Pac 12 team with a solid resume. They deserve to be where they are. On a neutral field I would favor them over LSU because they are the better team at this point.

Fair enough. Still, it's hard to imagine how they could have played better in those games.
