re: LSU 3rd lowest attendance for Spring Game. What needs to be done?

I went to my first spring game in a long, long time.
It will be my last spring game for a long, long time, or at least until they change the format.
It's not really a game. Miles is on the field, series are started and ended at random spots, it's "touch the QB and he's down," etc.
Boring as hell.

I would focus on much more non contact stuff.
Run some 7on7 while the linemen play big cat. Run some 1v1 coverage drills.
You don't have to line up fournette and pound him 35 times to entertain.

Yeah I know it's for the coaches to evaluate players and they can't be too revealing because we'll never go 8-4 if our secret playbook gets out. Look I'm being purposefully obtuse but seriously, if spring games are only for coaches evaluations, why make it public at all?
If you're going to open it to the public, why rub it in the publics face that you literally don't care what they think?
You really think it is the coaches choice to have an open to the public spring game? They would much rather have another closed practice to evaluate.

So you want them to wreck our qb's in spring practice?

Show me a spring game that doesn't have coaches on the field and has open season on their qb's.

Let the Golden Band actually play songs? Neck for starters?
Posted on 4/19/16 at 10:45 am to BeeFense5
No, I don't expect them to wreck the QBs. But don't call it a spring "game." It's a practice, nothing more, that's open to the public.

I would start going against just for that. How sad that my son has never heard neck at tiger stadium? Talk about getting the crowd hyped!

The level of stupidity in this thread is amazing.

LSU needs to do nothing for spring game attendance. They can cancel the "game" as far as I am concerned.

I am just imagining the outcry from the always miserable hate everything LSU football portion of the fanbase losing their minds if the scrimmage was full contact when Dwayne Thomas came untouched blindside on one of the plays and could have absolutely obliterated McMillan but didn't because it was spring.

Not sure if it's important or not to have bragging rights for spring game attendance, but 2 things that could possibly improve the crowd size:
1. Night game-- Everyone knows how LSU fans hate day games, not to mention it's generally cooler during night games.
2. Play a real game-- This will probably never happen as coaches use this "game" as a last scrimmage to tweak things and use it as a last chance practice.
An actual game at night might help attendance; whether it's important or not is another matter.

The Big Cat drill was more exciting than the game.

Teach people at UGA, Bama and Tenn to boil crawfish.

I'm not giving up a Saturday to go watch a meaningless, pointless, practice.
Seriously. I'm ok with us lagging behind the gumps on this one.

Stop having meaningless scrimmages dressed up as a game?

Nothing. It is a spring practice. No one with any type of life should really be that interested. Barring an injury, NOTHING of any meaning comes from that game.
Is it free admission? (I ask because I really don't know). If not, again, why would anyone pay money to watch a glorified practice?

Is this an indicator of the level of excitement a fan base has for their program?
No.
Seriously...years ago I kind of cared about this. I thought it would be cool if the Spring Game was a big deal and lots of people showed up. I used to go pretty often, but the truth is even as far back as Saban's first spring they were just practices. Spring Games are, essentially, for sports nerds and NOT the general LSU fan who pulls more for the uniform than the individual players wearing them. You know the type who never has any idea who the players are on the field at any one time and can usually only name 5 or 6 star players every year? Yeah...unless they're going for a party, they ain't interested in the Spring Game.
That's not to say there are not program who feel the need to cater to their fanbases in such a way as to gather up THEIR fans who also only pull for laundry...it's just that programs like that always feel like cults to me. Sort of like those asshats over in College station all showing up the night before a game to PRACTICE YELLING! We gonna' start comparing ourselves to those assclowns because they get 80,000 people to show up on Friday night and we get 0? I hope not.
Face it...only a small number of fans are really interested in watching an open practice. I cared enough to watch it on TV the day after, but even that I fast forwarded through.
