The puzzling thing with this is that we weren't plagued by these issues last year or early in the year this season.

Bingo....and this is what is maddening beyond words for me. There seems to be a disconnect somewhere.
Either JJ isn't communicating what he wants to the players.......or he is and they're simply choosing to ignore him.

Hell, I'm confused on offense as well. I'm not a basketball coach, but they don't appear to have any specific offensive scheme other than to try and get to JOB down low...and if that doesn't work, throw up some ugly azz 3 that usually clanks off the rim.
We get very little dribble penetration most of the time on the O side...much better penetrating in transition...but it is baffling.

I think you are over analyzing it.

Set offenses are statistically ineffective. You have a much higher chance of scoring by playing solid defense and pushing the ball.

George Karl has some interesting discussions on it. Playing better defense will lead to offensive consistency. I think it was one of Brady's biggest faults. We would play good defense, but he always wanted to slow the ball down.

Why do people keep saying this? LSU is able to get a ton of great looks from 3 out of our offense. Our numbers show this, even with Coleman being ice cold to start.

With a top ten recruiting class...exactly what is Johnny Jones excuse

So after 1 recruiting class we can match up with anyone?

You continue to be an idiot. We have undersized guards that can't stop the ball and leave our bigs out to dry. I think we underachieved this year too, but your viewpoint is extreme and absurd.

Just wait until we get to SMU and Larry Brown. It will be brutal.

Why did they collapse down the stretch with one of the greatest coaches ever?

That's because the average fan is clueless as to how teams try run a basketball offense and they totally forget the other team is doing everything they can to disrupt the offense.

We don't have guards who can penetrate. What's baffling is fans who expect to see penetration from guards who have shown no ability to penetrate!

Soooo....your saying abandon the half court game altogether or what? When we get in our half court O we look like shite. Players move around the perimeter a little bouncing in and out but always seem to rely on the mid-range to long jumpers. Very little cutting to the basket or screening going on.
We get a decent amount of short shots on O rebounds but short of that...
I'd love to run and gun every time down the floor but that's not really a viable option.

Then set more screens for them to create space rather than leaving em out on an island. We don't do enough of this.

My point...we dont run any apparent set offense

I'm saying that most half court games are shite, even at the NBA level. Good offense comes from attacking before the defense is set.

You notice it more for LSU because we struggle to get dribble penetration allowing for easier baskets

We do, we just don't have the type of playmaker at guard that can consistently create

Are you sure you haven't seen it?
We run it from both the left and the right. It's called "Get the ball inside to JOB, pass around till you can, and hope that if he gets doubled right away he'll kick it out. Or if the clock is running down and/or you get frustrated, take a 3pt".

There's also the "The curl play for Jarrell", but we don't seem to run that too often. Perhaps because he's not paying attention, and it has to turn into the "The inside to JOB".

Sarcasm aside, every team in the country knows our offense. We're even supposed to run it off the fast break. Didn't you notice how we many times we slow down and set up?

Used to be when TJ coached, Hickey and Stringer had the green light to push the ball on the fast break - had some great success with that (rest of TJ's offense not so much).
Dunno why CJJ doesn't let our horses run very often. It takes momentum to drive through the lane.

We actually have a coach who calls every play, no room for creativity here.
Watch and you'll see how often CJJ calls Hickey or TQ to tell them what to do. Doesn't matter if they were already pushing up the court to run something - he'll stop 'em.
