The hire makes little sense
Go ahead and mark me down as a fan who would not turn up his nose at a 3 time national championship winning coach who won at a school and area of the country with absolutely zero college baseball pedigree.

McDonnell admits a strong affinity for traditions traced to former LSU coach Skip Bertman. “I think there are jobs out there that out of respect you’re curious to listen,” McDonnell said. “I think it’s healthy to listen, so I would never say I wouldn’t listen to somebody to talk about their situation.”
This is pretty much the real world equivalent of the high school prom queen rolling up to you and saying "Are you gonna ask me to be your girlfriend or what?"

This is what the athletic department should look like after reading that quote

He likely peaked already and won’t stay very long. I think we have a chance for something more long-term.

Woodie has been in touch with agents. That way a coach can honestly say he has not talked to any university officials. Classic hiring practice.

True, he just sounded a little more convincing.

You don’t know why he “retired”. What people say publicly is not always the case.
Seems pretty logical that he retired immediately following this controversy with the pitcher. None of us know what went on behind closed doors between Casey and the school’s administration. Maybe they told him the kid couldn’t be kicked off the team.
We. Don’t. Know.

Choup i lm not turning my nose, ill accept him if he gets the job, but at the same time i have some slight concerns, never recruiting the area and his age which may affect his drive to do the job at lsu. Seems like he may just want one more big payday. But it also seems like a move to try to get a title with Crews and morgan here. Which is fine, it just ignores the future IMo.
Maybe he will come and stay for 6 years and win 2 titles, but ill be a little surprised

My first choice, Dan is legit.

Even though I just made a long post defending Casey I still don’t know how McDonnell and Godwin aren’t 1a and 1b.
Then Casey, then Bianco. Corbin isn’t leaving a private school with unlimited $$$ to come here.

He’s saying he’ll take the job if LSU makes a credible offer. If Woodward doesn’t talk to him, then Woodward is a damn fool.

Woodward better not F this up.
McDonnell is the best coach in the game. He built Louisville from nothing. He makes powerhouse teams without powerhouse recruits. Also, he didn’t bang boosters wives or supper a pedo.
There is no one better.

Make this happen Woody!

Make it happen, Scott.
These things don't always have to be so complicated.

I just can't wrap my head around replacing a guy retiring with another guy the same age. Then, to top it off, he's been out of the game for 3 years.
That just concerns me in recruiting. I'm not sure even 3 prior championships would matter as much.
However, those are just opinions. I could be wrong. I just don't see how it would make sense.
