It has to be something else because you can play through a torn labrum. It’s painful and the shoulder will continue to sublux but it won’t cause more damage.
Source: Me. I played through a torn labrum and got surgery at the end of the season.
You can absolutely do more damage to your shoulder playing football with a torn labrum and shoulder instability.

Chances of re-subluxation are much higher after you get a torn labrum. The shoulder is much more unstable and the odds of it slipping it out of socket from the slightest twist or rotation is much higher. And with each subsequent subluxation, the pain is even more excruciating.
I dislocated my shoulder two times due to sports related causes. It’s one of the most brutal and painful injuries anyone can get and I wouldn’t wish the pain on my worst enemy. Surgery is the only real solution to it if you want to have full mobility and use of it in the future.

It’s gonna suck. I had the same injury and the recovery after surgery is 2-3 months, and that’s on the light side. It’s going to continue to pop out until he has it done. I used to rollover in my sleep at night and it would pop out and pop back in.
