If he was acting as the OL coach why did Bielema let him go?

Maybe he wanted to leave and help coach the oline that has the honor or making holes for LF7?
Perhaps

Coach O can take over NOLA and get every blue chip he wants. While he's there, he'll lower the murder rate, put some new statues up, and hit some titty clubs.

but that doesn't mean shite when it comes to recruiting new Orleans, which is what the hell we need.
I don't know why so many ppl are stressing over this.
BeBe is due a raise and it makes since to bump him up and add recruiting coordinator to his title. The dude has deep deep ties in New Orleans and recruiting will not miss a beat.

Was assistant under a great OL coach and staff that knows OL play. I love the hire.
I just wonder what capacity and what this means with the rest of the staff.

Then that means someone on the current staff is going to coach RBs or we are looking at another staff move to make room for a RB coach. We are now at our limit for coaches.
He won't be on the staff, he's probably replacing Ryan Pugh who went with Frank to UTSA. These positions are "coach's assistant", not "assistant coach"

The original article has been edited in a few places today.
1) Eric Mateos has been hired as a graduate assistant offensive line coach at LSU.
2) Mateos was a graduate assistant at Arkansas for three seasons, the maximum allowed by the NCAA at one school
3) Editor's Note: This story originally stated that Mateos had been hired as a full-time assistant at LSU, but he was hired as a graduate assistant.

Easy with all that fiendish logic TIGER Ree, that's frowned upon here.... Really thou, you hit the nail on the head, he couldn't stay at Arky any longer unless hired as a coach.... I'm gonna let Miles and Co. worry about the staff changes, pretty sure the master plan isn't having this guy recruit New Orleans.

Leave it up to LSU fans to freak out about a graduate assistant hire.

Guys he is not taking a coaching spot, the very first line of the article says he is still a GA. Its only a story because he's considered an up and comer. GA's are limited to 3 years at any one program before they must be either hired there as an actual coach or move to another.

A very good pickup for LSU.

I don't know anything about this new hire.
But Grimes has been mentioned in this thread, and I do know about him. He's a top tier coach and we're fortunate to have him.
