Plus fastball and curve ball, but best effective as a middle relief.

LSU is down to one proven starter in Walker who is not 100% coming off Tommy John surgery. Not really the recipe for success. Unknown guys need to step up.

Wasn't the case last year.

plus fastball? Hilliard tops out at like 88-89 mph.

Hilliard has similar issues as Walker. He doesn't throw hard enough to get away with mistakes, so if he's missing his spots, he's useless and will serve up a lot of meatballs. Walker is just a lot more consistent at hitting his spots than is Hilliard.

It’s almost as if he’s regressed since he’s been with the team... kind of odd. I wonder what’s going on there?

That’s part of the issue

Hilliard was damn good last season, it really sucks that after his injuries he hasn’t been as good, he is still out best option imo

spin rate makes it a plus pitch.

the biggest issue I see is he is not locating as well. Still has good stuff but is serving it up at times.

A lot of people wont agree but right now Hess needs to be starting. He's the best available arm on the staff right now and gives us the best chance to win when he starts. Yeah he's not a consistent starter but we've seen him have solid outings at times this year and shut down opposing teams. What good is he in the bullpen right now when we are already down 5 runs by the 4th inning.

We don't have a capable starter. Would be better off starting Hess, Peterson and Beck. Hilliard,Walker and Marceaux get you down 6-0 in the third inning.

Hilliard needs to develop (one for sure) maybe 2 more pitches. His best pitch is the curve and he's not locating (hanging them up In the strike zone some) it right now which makes batters sit on fastball. Even his fastballs are missing their spots more than usual and the results are what you saw last night. When he has curve working, his 2 pitches are enough to stymie batters but he's just not "on", therefore needing more in his arsenal to get outs.
