Right. Especially when your usually reliable and perhaps elite QB throws 3 INTs in the first half.

If he has a game that would be considered average by this year's standards we win by 17

You shouldn't need your QB to have best-in-the-history-of-the-program stats every game to beat the likes of Ole Miss's reserves.

Not to mention that Ole Miss's two major miscues were both worse than any of the INTs Mett threw. You can't talk about the INTs without talking about the field goal into the line from the 20 and the fumbled punt inside their own 20.

I think we're probably overreacting to this loss, but the INTs are not an excuse. Sure, we would probably have won if Mett had a better game, but your QB is going to have off nights.

3 pics in no where near best in program history.

What about the 0 first half points and keeping the D on the field the entire first half?

Which is a big reason of why we lost. What is the point you're trying to make with this sentence?

We have a tile in that span and have 2 SEC titles. Keep focusing on the negatives though Mr I'm supposedly a fan.

the fans that post that we should be tolerant with the current situation with LSU's program and reference the success that LSU has had over the past decade often list another school in their profile, e.g. Vlad, Colorado State, ballscaster, Navy.

Okay, I'm not going to throw my fan resume around anymore than I did in the OP, but this is just silly. You've posted here for 3 weeks, max? Cool. Let me entertain your "valid concerns."

It is also noted that these type of ranters are verbose and condescending to the LSU fans that are sincerely concerned about the direction that LSU's program is headed.

I don't know what was condescending at all, especially to those that are sincerely concerned about the "direction that LSU's program is headed." I posted basically a 500 record against our rivals. Shouldn't that make you happy?

I'm pissed about Ole Miss too, and I don't think I ever said I was pleased with the season. If we go 8-4 and lose the big recruits, it's a different ball game.

Note, lsu2006, does not list his or herself as a LSU fan in the profile and the comment is condescending. My point made precisely. Also I will make no direct response to the post.

I don't care how many dgrees you have we USED to be an elite program.

I have 7 degrees, thanks for axing. Program is not the same as team. What's your definition of "elite"? Top 5 percent? There are 124 teams, name 6 that have been better over the last 5.5 years? There are 5 teams that have lost one or fewer games to unranked teams since 08, we are one of them. We'll see how it goes this year. We've lost 2 games by 6 points on the road. Ole Miss was big screw up, no doubt.

quote:

We are gradually declining! Texas A&M, FSU, Miami are all strong again. These teams were very strong when we were at our weakest 88-94 they impact were other elite players go.

Maybe. No reason to take our foot off the gas, but those three combined have not done jack compared to what we have in the last 5 years, post championship. It's a concern, but we have not been replaced.

quote:

BTW I'm not goint GTFO. I'll always be a huge fan but I'm a realist unlike you.

Realist? You think Miami has replaced LSU?

That we are over-reliant on ZM's performance. Needing your QB to be great every week is not a recipe for winning a championship.

Given what we now know about the defense, it wasn't reasonable to expect a championship this year. Right?
What will it be next year? New QB? Lack of quality experience on defense?
What was it in 2012? New QB.
What was it in 2011? Turns out we got our old QB back, and it was just a matter of time until we lost.
2010, 2009, 2008 - QB issues.
2007 - just needed a fluke. The team obviously had issues b/c they lost 2 games to average opponents.

You have to be able to win every game to win championships. If in most years we can't reasonably expect to be able (meaning that we are a solid team from top to bottom and SHOULD be able to beat anybody including Bama) to win all of our games, then what?

I don't know. Les has won a ton of games and kept the program at a high level, so he's definitely done better than a lot of coaches would have. We're still in better shape than all but a few programs, so by definition that's elite. I just think everyone's expectations are going down, which to me means we are in a bit of decline.

You don't have to be great to not throw 3 pics in one half.

FWIW, this is what killed the game in the end. Not being able to score at TD after that gift sealed our fate. We had ample opportunities to win and couldn't do it. It sucks, likely worst loss since 07 Kentucky, maybe even farther back than that given our ability and who they lined up that night.

So what? We lost a game. No SEC or NCG. I'm disappointed like everyone else, but a lot more needs to happen before we fall off as many think we have.

No I watched the whole game but yeah you're right I was impressed with the way the offense fought back in the second half after such an ugly first half performance. But it shows that our defense is not good enough to win games for us when the offense doesn't play lights out. The point I was trying to make is that the whole team and coaching staff played poorly and we just need to get over it. All this overevaluating and melting down by the fanbase is pathetic.

This. Everyone had high expectations, as they should, and now they have to be adjusted.

I agree, and I wouldn't bet against Les righting the ship. I didn't think he could get it back together after the 5 loss season in '08, but he did. Well, sort of. Definitely back up from that low-point, but it's starting to seem like the first 13 games of 2011 were an anomaly.
