if we didn't give up one or two the big plays in the second half in both games we look a lot better.

It’s human nature to not go 100% every play on defense when up multiple scores and when you know your offense can score at will. It’s just the way it is. Enjoy the 21 point win.

non-hyperbolic,

On this board, not going to happen. Not enough people on here know or understand the game to make educated, rational, well represented, non-hyperbolic statements. How many on here actually strapped on the pads on the HS varsity level? How many learned terms and techniques, scheme's, drills? From what I've seen on here, not many. So you will only get non-hyperbolic comments from a very small percentage. Let me add, you can still know and understand the game even if you never played. If you studied the game and learned. Just saying, most on here have not learned the game and didn't play the game. And some of those make the dumbest, most uneducated and insulting comments, simply because they have no idea wtf they are talking about.

That being said. This defense is young at certain positions, young and no depth, like CB. One veteran and the rest true freshmen. As good as Stingley is, he is still a true freshman and it shows at times. At other positions there's a lot of talent, like Dline, but not much quality depth. And that's a position you really need a solid 2 deep. LSU just doesn't have it. That hurts in the 2nd half when starters are getting weary and you bring in backups that are not nearly as good. same thing with the LBing group. You have some good starters, but after that there isn't a lot of depth. Especially now that Divinity is gone. You are forced to bring in a true freshman to start. There's a lot of talented LBer's, but you have one really good one and 2 or 3 good, but no great and not much depth. Safety is basically the same thing.

LSU just doesn't have the depth on defense to maintain a high level of play for 4 quarters.

Ole Miss is either 1st or 2nd in the SEC in explosive plays (20+ yards). This wasn’t some anomaly exposing LSU, they’ve been doing it to everyone this season.

Our defense has looked the best in close games (second half Florida, Auburn). The games where we’ve been relatively healthy and people complained about the defense (Texas, Bama, OM) we’ve gone into the half with 3 touchdown leads. While it might be problematic they appear to be getting lazy with large second half leads, they’ve still been turning it on when it matters.

Yes and no. LSU has beaten good teams but these same teams have continued to lose big games.

Can the D hold up if playing from behind against a top 4 school? Thats the debate about the D. With any of the other teams and you are absolutely right. Too much pressure on the opposing defenses and offenses, LSu just has too many highly skilled athletes in a 60 minute contest. But the other top 3 will have just as many and that includes Georgia in the SEC final.

Ive been a supporter like you all year, but Im not so sure anymore. It seems like whatever the opposing offenses do well, they do well against LSU. And that is not good defense.

We will need this defense to be much better next year.

Have you seen the recruiting class we have committed? It’s extremely defense heavy

Weren’t we missing 2 DL and a safety last night?

The real issue is depth.

It was 31-3 at the half, when you have an offense that is as efficient as LSU’s that scored every 2 minutes then that will lead to more opportunities for the opposition’s offense. This is not the dominant defenses that LSU has had in the past but they are good enough to give this offense we have a chance to win every game we play

And that’s all this team needs. Apparently it’s worked against the best in the country.
