Some of you might read this: CFP Selection Protocol
The committee is designed to select the 4 best teams in the country. Championships, head-to-head, common opponents, strength of schedule, etc are to be used to differentiate between teams of similar "records and pedigree" * ; in essence used as a tie-breaker. The guidelines give the committee the flexibility to choose an independent or non-champion if the situation warrants.
LSU will need to win out, and have Alabama and Georgia lose another to be in the mix.
*-WTF is a foobaw pedigree and does LSU have a good one?
