said getting him an extended outing allowing him to find his command would benefit us more than letting the guys we know are "inning eaters" throw their bullpens against Nichols.

He didn’t get the yips all of a sudden and need some innings to get his command back. This has been the issue with him from day one and a midweek outing isn’t going to fix it.

Mayers as a starter who can go multiple innings is probably a pipe dream.

I think number of appearances is more important for him than innings.

I don't understand this logic? All-American is All-American. The best freshman pitcher in America. Yea, he won all-conference too but i purposely didn't say that because that would make sense for you to turn your nose up about.

6 IP, 1 hit, 12 BBs, 11 K's

That is a crazy arse stat line for the season.

I like the idea of sending him out for an inning or two tonight, would not give up on him.

This same stuff could have been said about Anderson last year when he was getting lit up in SEC play. Then LSU moved him back to the midweek to work on things and he ended up giving up zero earned runs over his last 5 games of the year.

Maybe I’ll have to take back what I said yesterday about you not being intelligent if you keep speaking truth like this.

He did this at nicholls, where they can be patient and let him throw a billion balls to still potentially get outs because he is cream of the crop there. We have plenty of guys here on his level, he doesnt get the same luxury.

On top of that, last year he was significantly worse, allowing more than a free pass an inning which is really bad control. Here he has given up 14 free passes to get 18 outs, that is horrible. He will not see meaningful innings here until he can get that under control and he hasnt yet. Give him an inning in a blowout game, sure, he is far far away ready to start and give you multiple innings right now.

I actually have logic behind the majority of things that I say on here. You might disagree with some or all of it, but I have reasoning or proof to back up most of what I say or think.

This is herd mentality at its finest. You were told these guys would be studs this year and are still hanging on to that because you do what your told. (good boy )

Reality is we have 5 dudes right now, and its the guys who threw this past weekend. The rest are "inning eaters", and that is not the worst name to be called as a pitcher either. Stop being fake offended.

Funny stat:

LSU has three relievers with 0.00 ERAs right now, and none of them are named Evans or Cowan. Also, Jaden Noot has been solid.

First let me be clear. I am not saying we don't have guys that can hold their own out there. We do. An inning eater is a coaches crutch, someone you can put in the game and not worry about it blowing up in your face.

That is a funny stat, its Dorsey, Williams, and Beck. Take that for what its worth.

I personally think Mayers has the most upside this year. This is going to get backlash

As it should, that’s just not a good take lol. He’s not going to miraculously figure out how to throw strikes because of one start when he’s been dealing with this for the past 1000 days

His mechanics are horrific…his delivery isn’t close to repeatable. They need to completely change what he’s doing…kinda like they did with Coleman in ‘08 when they changed him to sidearm and he went off.

Mayers is a junior with 152.1 innings pitched over 40 games. He's walked 146 batters and plunked another 12. He's had a lot of chances to figure it out. I like to watch him pitch, but let some young guys get some experience before you burn more than an inning or so on him.

Hey man, I know you wanted to come on here and sound like you know what you're talking about with pitching mechanics and the whole bit. I get it. Its a good feeling.

But, you don't throw 100mph with bad mechanics. There is no argument on this. It just does not happen. He may be over throwing, over pitching (trying to nibble corners) but he does not need a mechanics overhaul. I appreciate the '08 call back though.

Sure you do..it’s why many pitchers throwing high velocity injure themselves.

Again, this is false. The pitching motion is an un-natural motion. Someone with the best mechanics in the world, throwing 100mph over and over again, will eventually injure themself. The human body has a limit, high velo pitchers toe the line every time they throw. Its all about arm care, recovery, and like a lot of other things genetics.

If what Notbilly said is true then according to you 158 free passes in 156 innings is a result of good mechanics….makes sense. Apparently throwing ball 4 hard is a good thing. Who knew?

ETA: sorry 152.1 innings

Nolan Ryan was an example of throwing 100 mph with perfect mechanics. He consistently threw 100-125 pitches every game for 20+ years. He pitched til 46 years old
