Dave, you are a very kind man. That guy has said some of the dumbest shite I've seen on here in long, LONG time. I was never even much of a Miles fan. In fact, I was pissed when he announced he wasn't going to Michigan. So, one has to say some really dumb shite for me to defend him.
Yeah, the 2011 Coach of the Year was never a really good coach. Get the hell out of here with that nonsense. How many coaches in the country could have come into the Katrina situation and still have that level of success??
Did he have his downfalls? Yes, all coaches do. Was he stubborn? You betcha. But, the guy was a good coach for a decade and even during his "down years" he still had LSU undefeated and in the top 5 in November.

quote:so a bad coach went to two national championship games? More then any coach ever at LSU. A bad coach won a national title tying him with Nick Saban and Paul Dietzel. A bad coach went undefeated throughout the regular season and winning the Sec? a bad coach won 10 or more games more then any coach in program history? A bad coach is the winningest coach in LSU history? Doesn’t say much for LSU for a bad coach to do more then any coach in the history of the program
So hiring someone who was not a good coach was not a mistake? Mmmkay..

I couldn't stand Miles his last 2 seasons here, but when he took over LSU.. He took over a 9-3 team that lost their bowl game and he proceeded to go.
First season: 11-2 (Peach Bowl Victory)
Second season: 11-2 (Sugar Bowl Victory)
Third season: 12-2 (National Championship)
2015 should have been a 10 win team, but had the home game cancelled. So O essentially took over a 9/10 win program.
He also face a much worse SEC schedule that should now only get tougher given all the coaching changes. Time will tell.
Miles did not let the program slide though. His main fault was simply not changing the offense.. but he was still recruiting at an elite level. He made incredible defensive hires once Chavis left out of no where. He brought in Steele and Aranda, who immediately started addressing linebacker recruiting. Then he brought in O as DL coach and we went from about last in the SEC in sacks, to 3rd in his very first year.
Miles absolutely did not let the program slide. And he especially didn't let it REALLY slide..
LSU was thought of as a top 10 program heading into his final season here.

Exactly. And that was "so terrible" that people (including myself) realized that he had hit a plateau and it was time for a change. IMO, bringing him back for '16 was a mistake. But, people act as if he had run the program into the ground. It's ridiculous.

Dave,
I agree the problem is F. King and alleva.
I also want O to succeed (10+ wins and title contention) because that means LSU football is fun hyper entertaining again and games have meanings.
I want LSU to win no matter who the coach is, and I hope O can bring us to where we want to be. I’m just not sold after last year, but I’m not completely down on O

There are some that just won't give Coach O a chance at all and they are dumb IMO. Most are wanting to see what happens this year, but get labeled as "haters" because they refute silly claims about things we have seen up to this point. I think the guy earned a right to a mulligan for last year's mistakes. Yes, it was disappointing to lose the way we did, but it was still a 9 win season.

But what’s a 9 will season? Only 2 other seasons worse since 2002

I'm only saying let's see what happens this season. I just don't see another Troy loss happening. If we don't see some improvement, then put him on the hot seat. Coaches get 3 years, so unless he only wins 7 games or so, I think he should too as long as recruiting remains solid as well.

Les wouldn’t fire brick until it was too late. When he knew he had to. By then he had little job security and needed 2-3 years to rebuild the front 7.

Why do you say this? He didn’t go here He’s coached at like 7 other schools. Some in direct competition with LSU. He’s said he grew up watching USC.
I stand corrected. Maybe it's just a paycheck for him.

quote:So in December 2004 you would've said it's a mistake hiring a replacement coach knowing he would deliver another Crystal Ball, SEC titles and a better career win % than the departing Saban?
LSU should have hired a better coach then
Do tell.
I don't recall so much arrogance back then after squeaking by OSU, getting skulldrug by UGA and losing Bowl to Iowa.
