O could only dream of a college hiring him as an HC again after Ole Miss, so this is a very literally dream job.

Getting tired of the "Les Miles did this" and "Ed O's doing that" threads. The recruiting was geared towards schemes. Chavis famously wanted smaller, faster defenders that swarmed to the ball. The DE's were basically OLBs. We wouldn't have played a lot of big mashers, so they weren't priority recruits. It wasn't that way before him, and since Aranda came, we've been getting bigger men.
This is one of the better posts here. People tend to forget we changed schemes and needed diff players for the front. That wasnt going to be fixed in one cycle.

Miles was a mistake hire. No question about it.
Wow. I’ve seen a lot of dumb shite posted here, but this is by far the most idiotic. Congrats.

Those who just try and hang on for dear life ain’t gonna make it. And what’s crazy is that these guys (O and staff) have literally turned the roster around in ONE calendar year.
I like the dline haul from this past class, but the rest of it was pretty meh. Majority of guys that will be starting and playing next season were recruited when Miles was the head coach.

Really the whole “O is rebuilding the DLine” started before he was HC when Miles hires O to do that.
People
Who act like Miles didn’t care about DLinemen are fricking retarded.
Also how would people feel about last years class if Rosenthal moves to OT?
Cotton, Nelson and Livingston.

yeah we were finishing second on some high rated guys. Ed was brought in to fix that.
And there is the whole no coach in the history of the program had 3 top 5 classes in a row. It was even Les' best stretch of recruiting. But he was becoming lazy?
Its just such a dumb arse argument that almost everything points to it being the complete opposite.

The arguemrnt that les propped up his classes win skills players is also hilarious considering the 3 highest rated players propping up our ranking are WRs and a CB/S

what about the oline? Lewis may be for real but you dont have him for long. Then its traore, wire and smith.
I dont see how anyone can look at that and say, wow! ed has completing changed this program around.

Hines is a guard or center now and everyone seems to think Rosenthal is a DL.
So that would be a dry good OLine class.

Well yeah, if those guys switch positions then it looks like a much better oline haul. But like you were saying, it would make the dline haul look less stellar.

I guess you people have difficulty looking at things dispassionately. The point is that Leslie Miles, former head coach of the LSU football team, underachieved given the talent that he had to work with. He lost multiple games because of monumentally stupid in game decisions. He never developed a QB, never adapted to what was happening even when it was clear that what he was doing was not going to work.
A better coach would have won another title or two. That said, in the latter part of his time at LSU he appeared to just let things go for reasons that are as enigmatic as the fact that he never pulled Jefferson from that 21-0 A$$ whipping in the NCG.
But, if you people think he was the bee's knees of CFB coaching, so be it. LSU should have hired a better coach then and a better one to replace him. Anyone see a pattern here? LSU has plenty of talent, but poor coaching in comparison to that talent. That's the point. Sorry if your feeling are hurt.

Exactly. Statistics are for losers.
Statistics like NC appearances? Winning Pct? SEC championships?
THOSE kind of statistics?

no one is arguing hes tGOAT coach.
hell, no one is even arguing he's a good coach.
we are just all laughing at your for saying he was a mistake hire.
regardless of what you think he "should have" done, the fact is that over the 11.3 seasons he was here, only one team had a better conference record than him, and that team had the coach that IS the bee's knees of CFB.

Which is also why for the life of me we didn’t go after an up and coming offensively minded coach
LSU did. then the AD blinked in a game of chicken with Texas.
if LSU makes an offer to Herman and Texas matches or raises, so be it, you tried. But no, Alleva decided he needed to call Orgeron at 5:30 am after being played like a fiddle by Herman's agent. and so whether you love O or hate him, if you can't admit that Alleva poorly handled the situation then, I really do question your fandom.

We weren't winning at a .770 clip in Miles final years and were no where close to that in SRC competition (.620) in Miles final 4 full seasons.
Yet we were still winning more than probably 10 or 11 other SEC teams.

We weren't competing for championships again under Miles.
Does anyone really believe we will under o? I don't. I may be proven wrong, and if I am, I'll admit it. But as right now, July 12, 2018, there's nothing o has shown me to sway me into thinking he can compete for a championship.

Orgeron was an underwhelming hire but Miles' time was past.
Orgeron was a HUGE underwhelming hire. And I agree that it was time to part ways with Miles.

So hiring someone who was not a good coach was not a mistake? Mmmkay....
