Enberg called a lot of the LSU games when we played the HUGE ooc games in the early 80's- at Depaul, UNC, ncaa tourney games (NBC used to have the tourney rights), some big Kentucky games we had. He was teamed with Al Mcguire and Billy Packer on a lot of these broadcasts. For years, he was paired with Merlin Olson on the #1 AFC game of the week when NBC had the AFC, (Pat Summerall and either John Madden or Tom Brooksheire where on the top NFC game back when CBS had the NFC). Great memories, and Dick Enberg was one of THE BEST to EVER pick up a microphone!

Weren’t Enberg and Don Criqui a duo at some point ? I think they did the 1982 Orange Bowl that LSU was in

Criqui was maybe CBS's #3 guy in the 1970's. Criqui moved to NBC in the early 80's. Enberg had surpassed Curt Gowdy as main announcer and therefore Rose.Criqui and John Brodie did the Orange vs Nebraska.

His call of Tyrus' putback (where TT nearly loses his mind running back down the court as Duke calls timeout )was GOAT.

#2 Louisville vs #1 seed LSU 1980 MW Regional Final Here is Enberg, Al McGuire and Billy Packer calling the 1980 Midwest Regional Final in Houston on NBC. (this was the second year of seeding in the NCAA tournament.LSU,along with Kentucky were the first SEC teams to be a #1 seed.Next year LSU became the first SEC team to have consecutive #1 seeds.)

Dick/Al was a great combo. I always liked when Dick would narrate the behind the scenes looks into the teams in the tournament.

Don Criqui called the LSU-DePaul game with Billy Packer and Al McGuire. Criqui occasionally filled in for Enberg with Packer and McGuire. Criqui also did PBP with Packer/McGuire on the Kentucky-LSU 1980 season finale at the PMAC (known just as the Assembly Center at that time).

LSU-DePaul 1980

Enberg called the Louisville-LSU Elite 8 game in 1980, and the Wichita State-LSU Elite 8 game in 1981. He also did the LSU-North Carolina game in 1984 when Jordan broke his wrist, and the North Carolina-LSU game in 1985 at the PMAC. Wish I could find more of the links with the NBC audio, but the two LSU-UNC clips from 1984 have the UNC audio.

Louisville-LSU 1980

Another poster asked if Dick Enberg and Don Criqui were ever a team, and the answer is no. Both were PBP guys (though it was not unprecedented a long time ago for two PBP men to work together).

No, Criqui was/is a play by play guy, just like Enberg.
Also, don’t think he was paired with Trumpy. He and Merlin Olsen were NBC’s number one team.
