Lee's first pick in 11-05 Bama game

I don't want this to be a JJ vs JL thread that has already been argued enough to make us all sick. My point here is what that play could mean for this coming season.
Watching the replay of the November game on ESPNU and they just showed the first INT Lee threw. Yes, he bobbled the snap which made him drop his eyes. Yes, he probably rushed a throw because he didn't want to get sacked (even though there was no pressure on him yet at the time of the throw). Yes, he went on to throw another. All of this has been discussed.
The thing I noticed was how Shep never tried to fight for inside position on the CB covering him. He was running a seam route but never got inside position which is critical for that route. If Shep is going to be a primetime receiver he has to put himself in proper position. Allowing the corner to take away the inside on a seam route means you will never be open. I think proper positioning/route running is the biggest knock on Shep and why he doesn't catch many balls.

Good point.
Sometimes the qb is not the primary source of blame for interceptions.

Shep does have some issues as far as being a WR goes (seems out of sorts at times), but in terms of that INT. That was Lee. Looked like a deer in the headlights.
I'm confident Shep will turn it around this year.

I'm a Lee fan but once Lee got popped for the first time he played scared the rest of the time he was in there.

I agree Lee fricked up on that play, but Shep did nothing to help him and was not running a good route to start with.
I really hope you are right and the light bulb comes on for him at the WR position. With the lack of experience at the position (even though we do have some good young talent) we are going to need him to step up.

That pass was terrible. Even if he gets inside position on the corner the safety still steps in front of him and takes it easily.

I disagree. Shep might get popped, but no way the safety is able to pick that off if Shep is on the inside. If Shep would have had inside position, the safety would have had to go through him to get to the ball.
But again, not trying to defend Lee. Just pointing out that Shep has a lot of work to do on the small things that make a receiver great (ala Chris Carter).

Where are you seeing an under thrown ball? The ball was even with Shep at the time of the INT. Problem was Shep was shoved 5 yards outside of where he should be which allowed the safety to step in and get the ball.

If you switch Shep's position with the corner the pass is still away from him and low. At best he gets concussed out the game.

The ball was under thrown and off target. You can't expect you're receiver to get inside position on every play. Defenses try to prevent that. It's the QBs job to see if the receiver has inside position if he's going to make that throw.

If the snap is at his chest instead of his calf, the INT never happens. Just glad LSU found a way to win.

Still disagree with your position, but that's cool. Either way, my point isn't trying to break down that pass and how poorly it was thrown. My point is that if Shep is to step up and be a "Go-to" receiver, he needs to sharpen his route running and be in proper position to help his QB have a good target to throw to.

Shep was denied inside. Corner had perfect position, ball was too underthrown for even the corner to make a play. Safety caught the ball sliding to the ground 6 feet short of receiver...the receiver that was blanketed BTW

After the snap, best thing Lee could've done is tucked his head and lost as few yards as possible.

That's my exact point. He never even worked/fought to get inside. I watched the play several times. From the moment he came off the line he never even tried to get inside position. He let the corner dictate his route.
