I'm not here to bash Coach Miles, I actually have a lot of respect for the man, but I'm tired of reading how Les recruiting classes always were ranked in top 5, while this is true it is also misleading.
Les would fill out his class with bunch of 4 and 5 star players, but 9 would be defensive backs, 8 receivers, 5 d-limnemen, 3 offensive guards, 2 tight ends, and no linebackers.

His recruiting classes never had balance or fill positions of needs, like tackles, linebackers, and quarterbacks to properly balance out the class.
You have to recruit star players, but you must fill positions of needs or it will catch up with you in the long run.

GTFO with this shite. Les was an elite recruiter.

ETA: Downvotes from bitter LSU "fans" that can't say Miles, the national championship winning coach that is the best LSU has ever had, did anything right, Clowns.

So we went from Les only won on talent and was a shite coach to now Les wasn't good at actually recruiting needs. Those two statements can't coexist.

I'm assuming you never paid much attention to recruiting classes?

Les was an elite recruiter, from a HC standpoint, and brought in a ton of talent at all positions. The only knock you can put on his recruiting classes is that they missed on QB recruits a good bit. It's wasn't that they never brought in highly sought after kids, it's that they either missed on the evaluation, or couldn't develop them.

IMHO, most of the QB woes LSU has experienced can be traced back to Ryan Periloux. If he doesn't act like an idiot, you're never forced into the Lee/JJ situation and those two may have been able to actually develop rather than be forced into a situation neither was prepared for. After that, it was all down hill.

There were holes.

I, personally, fault the position coaches and coordinators for that.

Les should have held them more accountable, but they have to do their job... and one of those is identifying, evaluating, and getting those needs.

That being said, outside the trenches those holes should not have had the impact they had, then and now.

But you did any way?

However I do appreciate your astute recruiting analysis. It isn't often that a nationally recognized expert in this field visits the Rant.

Is this where we pretend that Ok St has the same opportunities LSU has back when he was there? You guys sure do try hard.

Your honesty is very refreshing Earthquake. However, you will be pelted with numerous down votes by the hoards of Miles brown nosers and negatiger coach O haters on the rant.

I never said he wasn't an elite recruiter at LSU...I am saying if he is an elite recruiter wouldn't he have been an elite recruiter at Ok. St.?

I am of the opinion LSu made him an elite recruiter bc of the foundation Saban laid as well as Dinardo.

So I guess any idiot should be bringing in consistent top 5 or so classes here. How's that working out so far?

GTFO with your love affair of a coach that got fired. Accept it dick. You don't get fired for being good.

I think Les's track record with top recruiting classes every year and a ridiculous turnover of players to the NFL at all positions proves he was an excellent recruiter.

Les had faults such as offensive philosophy, conservativeness, and QB development

but recruiting was never an issue

How did Saban’s recruiting at LSU and Alabama compare to his recruiting at Michigan State?
