Well, let's be clear and honest here... Les wasn't a "consistent top-5 recruiter" until the 2014 class.

He was a good one for sure, but he was far from "always having top-5 classes" as I've seen posted and he did get better. His last 3 were top-5 for sure. So saying he became a top-5... yep, very true.

His avg class (using 2006 as 1st): 6.54
First back-to-back top-5: 2015 & 2014

If one were to draw an imaginary line (cherry picked by me) between 2013 and 2012:
Avg pre-2013: 8.14 (high= #1, Low = #13)
Avg post-2012: 3.75 (high= #2, Low = #6)

He had a #5 class in 2007 sandwiched between #8 and #13 and the #1 class in 2009 sandwiched between #13 and #9.

Last 4 years however were (2013-2016): 6,2,5,2

how were his classes at Ok. St.?
2002 - 31st
2003 - 21st
2004 - 24th

Not bad at a program that had 1 winning season in the 12 years before he got there.

Les Miles was fired because he plateaued and refused to adjust the offense.

Like him or not his accomplishments as the head coach at LSU under his tenure was ELITE. We can all argue over his coaching abilities but he fielded elite teams loaded with the countries best players for years and had many successful years

LSU made the change to win more than 10 games a year, which isn't even horrible

It was time to move on but Les wasn't 'horrible'

Can't we say the same about Orgeron at Ole miss?

He recruited elite DB's, WR's, RB's. Other than that, he was average at best.

Look at how our DL suffered when we played Miss. State and Dak Prescott, as well as LB's.

Need I mention no elite QB's since Jamarcus & Flynn (both Saban recruits).

His top rated classes were DB, WR, RB heavy and that's a fact!

Your love affair for MILES cant coexist with a man who:

Went 7-5 the very next year after a NC

Only averaged a little over .500 in conference play
in the last 4 years

Didn't know the meaning of time management

Had a love affair for his criminal players and let them back on the team every time.

Turned our team from a run and gun offense to a SCREEN PASS UNIVERSITY.

His recruitment of OL,DL,and LB was terrible. And of course QB’s.

What year did he not sign any LB’s? We were very thin at that position too.

GTFO with this shite. Les was an elite recruiter.

ETA: Downvotes from bitter LSU "fans" that can't say Miles, the national championship winning coach that is the best LSU has ever had, did anything right, Clowns

This is why smart people with genuine intentions get frustrated with TD. Disingenuous shite-posters like you.

The OP NEVER stated that Miles wasnt a great recruiter and even prefaced his comments with, "Im not here to bash Miles". His complaint revolved around the balance of those top classes.

But you already knew that didnt you?

shite-poster posts shite.

Just read an article that Gundy averages 34th in recruiting classes...damn he fields top 10 teams with way less talent than miles had

However I do appreciate your astute recruiting analysis. It isn't often that a nationally recognized expert in this field visits the Rant.

Another shite-poster here to miss the mark.

No. Not "horrible" in a vacuum but success in this field is relative and the many visceral, polarized reactions you see when his name is brought up hinges around this.

Some take the "wide-field" view of the Miles tenure which takes-in LSUs history and the positions of other college programs while others takes the "narrow-field" view thats relative and take into account things like NFL players from LSU, recruiting classes, program resources, AD revenue, recruiting location/grounds.

If youre the former then you think his tenure was great, maybe the best ever here. If youre the latter, while you may be appreciative of what he did do, you also lament his time here and think he left A LOT on the table and outside of a couple years, really was a perennial underachiever and never seemed to address glaring issues that would have likely closed the gap and made his tenure even more successful. Its not that these people hate the man, I dont get that sense at all, I think its more a feeling of "what could have been".

Easy analysis...name DL in the NFL? Name LB in the NFL? Name OL in the NFL?

Then name RB's, WR's, DB's...compare the two.
