I understand the reluctance because of inexperience, I had the same feeling too. But if the OP is right and he’s won this battle he deserves a shot. He knows how it runs, he may not have done it before but he’s worked in the athletic department his entire adult life and been within the administrative staff for 18 years. What’s wrong with hiring someone who’s worked his way up through every level of the system? And as far as exchanging one “puppet” for another, nothing could be further from the truth. This guy is taking on Alexander not cow towing to him so he’s anything but a puppet. Like I said I get the experience question but nobody’s more loyal and nobody will hold the health and prosperity of LSUs athletic program higher than Verge Ausberry.

Verge learned from the best and observed the best and is willing to listen. ( Emmert , Saban , Gill , parts of Dean ). He know how to navigate the waters. ). What does an AD do. He navigates the waters. He has things lined up . He is politically astute , he knows good coaches. He runs a business that makes money. Better still he knows what doesn’t work at LSU. ( parts of Dean , f king , parts of alleva )

Where does verge falter in that discussion. ? Ask yourself. ? Sounds like a pretty good guy to get behind.

He would not have hired Trent , he would not have lost Saban , he would have hired Saban back , he would not have lost Jimbo the first time

Damn.

He is well respected in the industry and is well respected with the coaches agents. And he works at all those relationships.

We could do a whole lot worse.

Personally I would rather king go than alleva.

First, let's quit using his loyalty and love for LSU as a qualification to be LSU's AD. No one loved LSU more than Jerry Stovall and Joe Dean. Both were former great players. Both were fired for being in over their heads, JD for political reasons as well. What business does he run that makes money; correct me if I am wrong but his primary job is scheduling football games, right? If wrong, please explain what he does above and beyond that that relates to his qualifications for running a multi million dollar business. Those remarks about Saban are absurd. Skip had more experience in running a business, first his baseball program and then the athletic dept, in his left pinkie than anyone in the athletic dept. let alone Verg. And he could not keep Saban. How does he get Jimbo if his president does not give him the money, let alone that obscene amount the aggies paid? At this point in time in the SEC, LSU needs a proven expert who will keep LSU in the top tier of the league. Not someone learning on the job. And, finally, politically astute? Look at who his two main political supporters / mentors are: THEY make you comfortable? Not trying to be a Negative Nancy, just sick and tired of this same old song and dance in LSU's AD, promote someone with no real experience but has the right political connections. This point was / is used against Coach O: who out there is interested in hiring him away from LSU? Same applies to Verg. Right?

/ first let’s quit using his loyalty... /

- i have not used his loyalty as a reason. Please cite where I have. I may have missed it in my re read

- he is the number two man and the department is making money. He is very much in control and on top of things regarding budgeting . If you were knowledgeable about the department you would definitely know this. His direct responsibility is for

“ supervises and is responsible for the LSU football, men’s basketball and men’s and women’s track and field programs. He also oversees LSU’s sports medicine and research, equipment staff, strength and conditioning staff, video department, branding, life skills and alumni relations. Ausberry also assists the office of LSU President Dr. F King Alexander in external and governmental relations.“

- Ausberry was in the corner of keeping Saban He lost to your friend skip . Biggest mistake of an AD in the history of LSU.

- Ausberry was for rehiring Saban when Les was going to Michigan and was working toward that end when others did not think it would be smart to convince Miles to take the Michigan job.

- jimbo was a a done deal and Ausberry was the negotiator. He was not Paying what a and m ended up paying .nor the same term Then f king pulled the rug and didn’t fire les. Only to fire him three or four games later. Btw verge was the one that kept things calm and handled the fallout in both instances

The o hire has panned out to date. I didn’t like it then but so far so good.

I am not saying that verge is a slam dunk. But I suspect verge could get plenty of shots around the country if he wanted.

Verge is greater than herb Vincent in my opinion. I would like to make a run at Woodward first . I don’t know what other ADs would be available. A national search should always be conducted.

I would counter your argument by asking you to not just pass over the local insider candidate. Sometime exactly what we need is right under your nose.
