If you have no ties whatsoever to either state where would you and your family rather live? A ritzy part of the Los Angeles area or Baton Rouge?

I agree with most of your post and even agree that LSU is not necessarily a better job than USC. However, USC is not exactly in a ritzy part of LA. It is near the South Los Angeles neighborhood (formerly known as South Central). It is also close to Inglewood and Watts. The campus is safe, but you wouldn't want to walk more than a block or so in any direction (North is actually ok) away from campus.

ETA: UCLA is in the Beverly Hills/ Bel Air area, so perhaps that's what you were thinking.

At USC there will still be pressure and expectations. But because USC football isn't the biggest thing in the state the HC gets more job security.

I can’t argue against your points....

One other input about the pressures at SC: When I lived in LA, most of my SC friends, including a few who worked at the school, said the athletic Director is extremely hard to work for and some of the boosters are an absolute nightmare behind the scenes. I don’t know the validity, but if true, that would be a problem with the SC job. Maybe not enough to offset taking it over another job, but it is a concern.

Agreed. When Pete Carroll was the coach at SC, he lived in Manhattan Beach I believe. That’s not exactly an easy commute to SC every day. If you’re going to be a coach at SC, you’re not gonna live near SC. You’re going to drive a ways in LA commuter traffic.
