Yes LSU could have won both the Auburn and Wisky games at the end, but LSU certainly didn't dominate those teams.

Nobody dominated either of these teams. They were very good and had us at home. The OP has a point to his thread. We were close to having a special season by just splitting with those 2. And clearly the better team lost in the Florida game.

That's only if you take coaching out of the meaning of team. But you can't and therefore we shouldn't have. (referring to coach Les)

Win or lose, it's always like this. Look at our National Championship years...So many little lucky things fell in to place for us to win some nail biters.

100% the main reason why we hate Miles. He's stubborn as frick. Always has been, always will.

I agree with your analysis. The trouble is, had LSU gone 11-1, as it should have, then your head coach is still Les Miles. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better.

The Florida loss was a freak loss, but that's just the law of averages. Think of all the freak wins LSU has had over the years, especially in the Miles era. The 2010 Tennessee game immediately comes to mind, but there are others. Sometimes it happens to your team, too.

One thing that continues to be remarkable to me is how utterly poor Miles and Cam were with managing the QB situation over the last three years. Obviously, Etling should have been the starter from day one last season. The fact that Miles and Cam were unable to detect that during the offseason is mind boggling, especially considering how much these coaches were being paid. When Etling started running the offense in the Jax State game, it was like a new (functional) offense had suddenly been installed. But in reality, all that happened was that a different QB was put in the game who actually knew how to do simple things like throw a three yard screen pass, or look to a second or even third read, or get rid of the ball before taking a drive killing sack.

exactly. Look at Clemson last year. They had to get a gift choke job from the NC State kicker to win that game in OT. If they lose that, they have two losses and don't even make the playoff.

Instead, they're National Champions. This stuff happens every year to many, many teams.

It never ceases to amaze me how dumb some threads are. Had LSU gone 10-1, they still don't get in the playoff because they are not going to leave 3 major conference champions out of it to put in a runner up
In SEC. The only way that they would have gotten in is to beat Alabama or have the Tide lose twice

Vehemently agree! Sure we can 'what if it', etc, but your assessment is spot on!

-Run the ball, kick a FG, beat WISC
-Better clock management, you have 1 sec left for winning TD vs AUB
-Guice hits designed hole for running play, he walks into endzone
-Get just 3-5 1st downs in the Bama game that extends drives, eats clock, turns field pos and gets just a few points...

Team was loaded, especially on DEF, and sadly it was a wasted opportunity. NO other way to say it.
With that said, flush it and move forward. Talent abounds on both sides of the ball. MUST use those early non-conf games to gel the OFF and have DEF get their assignments down. Tough sched, no doubt, but we can still compete and win 9 games or better.

Florida loss is the worst thing that could've happened.... didn't count for anything in regards to choosing a coach (IDK Y?) and now we have a realllly good shot of dropping 3 in a row to them due to away Games. I hate everything........

The biggest freak win that comes to my mind is the 22-21 OT win over Oregon State to start the 2004 season. The Oregon State kicker missed 3 extra points his entire college career and all three were in that game.

Talk about freak (or lucky) win.

IF we win the first two then Miles isn't fired and the offense doesn't change at all. Nothing that Coach O's interim staff did would have happened which means there's no telling what would have happened in the rest of those games.

Nah dude, I'll go with 1/9/12 for that one.

Maybe if we didn't have a sec title that year. I'll take sec title and losing badly in the national title game over losing at home to a 14 point underdog that was missing tons of defensive starters to miss out on the sugar bowl.

Well, obviously the Wisconsin and Auburn games would have been won with any kind of offensive showing at all. Florida we just pissed the game away with stupid mistakes, seeming to indicate a lack of focus. Maybe the unusual circumstances leading up to the game and/or the confrontation between the two teams during pre-game warmups distracted our players. Whatever it was, their heads were obviously somewhere else that day.

It was an absolute mess on the field that night worst field conditions I can remember in Tiger Stadium outside of the monsoon the night The U came and pistol whipped us. JRuss came in and saved us I thought he'd win the job after that. Randall was a tough SOB but I'll never understand why Saban didn't just go with JRuss that year.

I think we beat Wisky if miles doesnt try to get Harris in rhythm early in the game.

Our entire 2nd possession was incomplete passes by Harris. He was horrible in that game. His and was 6.9.
