The dates on Nola are off. He pitched '12 - '14. The chart shows him pitching in 2021.

ETA: I think Nola had a 118 potch count as a true Fr. That was his all time high.

The boxscores are still on there. Here's the one from Mestepey's game against Tulane

Me. I threw 228 pitches in 2010 against Ole Miss. We won 19-16

My arm was sore as hell the next morning

LSU has wiped old box scores up until 2010 after they re-designed the website.

that has to be regular season only.

Skenes threw 123 against Tennessee in Omaha, 120 against Wake in Omaha, and 124 in a complete game against Tulane in the regional in 2023

The data says this says that isn’t true, pitch count is one of the most correlated items with arm issues.

That's unsurprising, but not in itself illuminary. Players who are good pitch a lot. Someone who isn't used much is way less likely to hurt their arm. This information, without more, would be like if I told you that dying is most highly correlated with a hospital stay. Ergo, hospitals kill people.

Wow, look at all those guys who never made it to MLB due to pitching too many pitches in a college baseball game.

Lange definitely had arm issues and lost velocity going into the pro game. Looking back at his pitch counts you could definitely argue he was over used,

That said, stretching out in a postseason game is quite different in terms of rest management & stakes.

It’s got much more to do with knowing your pitchers mechanics, red flags, etc.

And the kid needs to be honest, as well. If Kade would have shown “tiring”, he’d have been removed. He actually looked stronger in 8th and 9th.

Mestepey threw 153 pitches in his 10 inning outing in Game 1 vs Tulane in the 2001 Super Regional.

And didn't he get injured in the dog pile after winning the series?

Good list.

I guess it only seems like Christian Little threw 200 pitches against Mississippi state in 2023 without getting anyone out.

How often did Lange throw that many after a low pitch count the week before and an extra days rest coming up?

What time frame are you talking about? Lange was throwing upper 90s in MLB. He never threw that hard here.

If I remember right, he lost velocity very early in his career. Think they gave him a week off at one point.
