Those are two questions:

quote:

Last QB everyone agreed on?

This century: Rohan in '01, Mauck in '02-'03, Flynn in '07

quote:

when was the last time everyone actually liked the starting QB?

Never in the history of LSU football. (Maybe they liked Hodson for a few games)

I remember someone in the student section yelling that Michael Clayton would win the Heisman if it wasn't for Mauck being his quarterback.

Wrong. Though he was a freak, he made too many mistakes over the course of a season to win a NC. Many people, especially older people who have been around the game longer, realized the benefit of having more of a game manager like Flynn and wanted him to start his entire career. I personally was ready to see Flynn start in 07, Russel had his chance. Who knows how good he could have been had he started more than one year.

Russell had a great season in 2006 which was way better than Flynn's in 2007.

Championships are a TEAM accomplishment.

Russell can't be the answer as people were ridiculously calling for Flynn to take over.

Did you forget about the Mickey Guidry crowd?

I think Mauck in 2003 was the last QB most of Tiger Nation settled on. Flynn in 2007 was a close second but many wanted Perriloux.

how the game has changed. talent wise, I would take Jones over all of the above including Tommy Hodson. Though Tommy was a winner and a tough gamer.

Jones could throw it end zone to end zone, but so could the QB from Central that coached somewhere in the SEC at one point as an OC - can't recall his name. The difference with Jones and everyone else besides Hodson was he had unbelieveable touch to go with his cannon. Hodson didn't have the arm strength of Jones. Russel nor Rohan had the touch and strength combined.
To put is mildly he didn't need all of those first round receivers make him look great.

He was booed by LSU fans at the '02 VT game. But aside from that, I would be surprised if anyone but the typical idiots booed him.

Maybe his freshman year, but not after that. Hodson is LSU's best quarterback ever.

No doubt.

What would you call folks who actually saw Hodson play? I mean, really...give us a label.

Hodson was booed multiple times his last year. Maybe a better question: Is there an LSU QB who has never been booed?

I don't recall Herb Tyler ever getting booed, but then expectations were generally so low then.

100% on Mauck being booed, Florida 2003

I was sitting there in the middle of it (I dont boo my own team) he was getting cursed out etc. Guess people think he can actually hear them...

Regardless, it was not pretty, kind of messed up because his father was literally right there in the middle of it. Obiously, I dont think anyone knew though.

Without a doubt Matt Mauck. He played so well in '02 but he got hurt and it ruined the season. I think everyone was happy with Mauck in '03, well more than Randle at least.

I was Rohan's biggest fan. Especially at the Peach Bowl in 2000. But not everyone agreed he should have replaced Josh Booty. I told my brother at the game that if Booty came back for the second half, we were leaving. As soon as I saw #6 come on the field, and yes, Brandon Winey was also activated, I knew LSU was gonna win.
