I am sorry but I just can't see how he ( lane Kiffin ) is not the obvious hire. He is 41. He is passionate about his job. He is obviously and offensive guru and has been considered as such forever. He was a head coach in the NFLat 31. He went 7-5 with Tennessee his only year there before bolting to his dream job USC. He has a nice couple years there( 10 and 2 his second year ) and the wheels came off . He absolutely has extended Alabamas's stranglehold on the SEC And the nation . Nick Saban does not hire bad coaches as coordinators. So in my book he is one of the top pure coaches in the game and probably a top 5 offensive mind in the game ( college ) his technical resume is hard to beat.
compare his resume to Herman. One year of head coaching at a non power 5 school . He is obviously highly thought of as an offensive mind and was hired by urban Meier. Most people would say he is a top 5 offensive mind in the game ( college )
The differences seem to be one is a bit flamboyant and one is not. One has more HC experience. There is no experience quite like a little bit of humility which maybe is what Saban saw in him.
In the end if we were able to get any of the brightest offensive minds in the game. JIMBO , lane K or Herman we would be off to the races.
If JIMBO turned me down. I would make my decision between Lane and Herman based on my interview face to face
And if Lane came in and I got the right feeling that he had learned for the past. I am thinking I hire him before Herman. His resume is flat out better

Are you serious? Kiffin has been fired, in mid-season, twice. At SC, the team went 6-2 under Ed O after they canned him. His players basically quit on him.

The same people that want Kiffin are the same people that don't want Briles...
It's unexplainable...

Yep . I discount the NFL deal ( check Sabans NFL success ) and I would like to hear a bit more about the USC deal. Might actually call a few folks about what went on after 10-2. Just to check. Don't get me wrong. I would check some references. Would like to hear what coach O would say but he was heading in the right direction at Tennessee. His resume is stronger than Herman. They both appear to be genius.

That wasn't my point.......read the other 99% of my post in case you want to know why I actually wouldn't want Kiffin. Kiffin isn't Saban just because he's a douche too

I agree... these people are just going off what the next man says about Kiffin. They don't know if they want to win games or hire the next great personality.

No it isn't. He has a lot more negatives on his résumé than positives. One decent 10-2 season out of six college seasons and two NFL ones. They actually got better once he was fired at USC.

His last name has awarded him jobs he didn't deserve early in his career. His HC resume is all I care about and it's abysmal.

For the record. He was 35 and 21 in college
And 4.5 seasons
He took Tenn. from 5 and 7 to 7-6 and his tenure at USC was during heavy recruiting penalties which affected his year 3 and early 4. Again I would like to know more details about year 4

Don't want Kiffin at all!
But I really don't trust Alleva to make a good hire anyway. So Kiffin it is.

Hire Kiffin if u want to win. You people know nothing about his character. You hate because of his recruiting success at Tennessee and his offensive success at Bama. Stop being a bunch of pussies.
He's a football coach, not marrying your daughter.

During his three-plus seasons at USC, Kiffin won 28 games, including going 10-2 in 2011. That year, the Trojans won the Pac-12 South but weren’t allowed to play in the conference’s championship game because of NCAA penalties.
During that season USC won at Oregon with 51 scholarship players.
He was 3-2 when he was fired.
I am not sure where you come up with they got better after he left

You are an idiot. Lane Kiffin will be whipping arse as a head coach at a major college within 2 years at the most.
It could be LSU.

You my friend are spot on
Who is the smartest coach in college football
Saban
Why is he considering bringing Sarkisian in. Do you think he realizes that Kiffin is the hottest thing on the market. He just laid 50 on USC. With two freshmen qb. Maybe you think he likes the idea of a smooth transition to another brilliant offensive mind that needs a calm and steadying influence to rehabilitate himself ..... Sorry Kiffin is the surefire hire and you get him cheaper cause he has a little baggage.

Aranda is the guy
For the must have HC experience group that's how we went Miles over Fisher

Don't forget Mike Archer big guy.
I am not against Aranda and not comparing him to archer. I am not an absolute kind of guy. Best man for the job
But he does not compare to getting Kiffin. Kiffin likely keeps Aranda. And Aranda gets huge job down the line so he stays.

They could try some head coach in waiting thing for sure. But that hasn't worked anywhere else. Unless Saban is ready to call it quits now and Sarkisian is Kiffens hand picked OC.... Hmmm. That would open up a shot at Dabo ...
