Braswell should have taken that himself

Nah, he was just positioned very poorly.

Why we weren't at DP depth there, I'll never understand.

Thats not on nippolt. Just our positioning preventing a double play

Either way, you were never going to get the out at first. He was a long way from second when he fielded it.

Rantz was talking out of his arse when assessing that DP opportunity for Nippolt.

Dude didn’t make a mental mistake. He was played deep away from 2nd. His move to the base was immediate on that rocket to short.

BTW: y’all remember when we had Ryan Theriot, Mike Fontenot and Aaron Hill all in the same middle infield? That was fun.

At least would have been a chance with a rocket throw

That was a lot better look with Johnson. Once the kid figures it out watch what he does.

140 years of baseball had taught the defense where to line up, and in the last 5 years all the coaches decided they were smarter than the thousands of coaches that came before them.

When up by that much positioning to get 1 out is more important than positioning for a DP. Only chance at that was Braswell to take it himself. He should have been aware of Nippolt’s positioning before pitch. Still did what they had to do to get the 1 out.

Arkansas wins a CWS if Nippolt was their second baseman.

But even in the shift era, you still position your MIF and DP depth. That was just a terrible coaching oversight by Jay and the staff. I guess it's a good thing it happened in a 10-1 midweek game.
