JJ had better arm mechanics against A&M. Watch the replay and you'll see. It was awkward looking but he threw better. I want to see Mett too but that was probably put on hold b/c of the bowl game JJ had.

I like Stephen Rivers' pedigree. If ZM comes here and handles his business thus winning the starting spot, cool. However, I'm not going to get overly excited about something new that hasn't been test-driven in the SEC.
I like Rivers' pedigree as well...and also look forward to his reign. That doesn't mean I think it's guaranteed. Just means I'm looking forward to it. I look forward to winning the lottery, I look forward to fishing trips, I look forward to living a long healthy productive and rewarding life. I might die right after I submit this post, though...

I think the hype machine is high on ZM for a few reasons and it may not be fair to place the expectations that some are doing upon him at this time.

Reasons, IMO:

1 - LSU has not had good, consistent QB play the last 3 years from JJ and JL.

2 - LSU has not had offensive coaching chemistry between the HC and OC the last 3 years.

3 - LSU has not had a top-tier QB commit come in since Russell or Perrilloux.

4 - The fanbase is desparate for improved QB play and a highly touted QB commit.

Some LSU fans sound like UF fans when they tabbed Brantley the 3rd best QB in the SEC as a backup on his own team in 2009. He loss playing time to two freshmen in 2010 when he was suppose to be the heir to Tebow's throne.

I just caution fans to balance their disgust, anticipation, and desire. It could save them much stress and frustration.

This is an excellent point. Although highly touted, Brantley was certainly not comparible to Tebow in terms of playing style, and the style of the entire offense didn't fit him. It's hard to change styles that quickly, even with a new OC. This is something to think about when complaining that Mett isn't getting a shot. He doesn't have the skill set to run the type of offense LSU has been running the last few years. He isn't a running threat at all. Going back even to 2007, LSU has had a running threat at QB one way or another, whether it was Perrilloux coming in, Flynn had his own wheels, friggin' Hatch, and now JJ. I'm sure Mett will have his chances, but I do think JJ is CURRENTLY the better choice...based off what we know AT THE MOMENT.

I would second this point. I'd also throw in that Rivers and Randall will get their chances in 2012.

There's a lot taking place in practice, on the sidelines, and in the coaching booth that many fans are not privy to. I think there are a number of things that have impacted QB play, WRs not knowing where to line up, OL missed blocks, etc. The entire offense had issues the past few years and I will put the responsibility on the shoulders of the guys that receive $3.75M, $700K, and $400K+ per year before I put it on the backs of a couple of highly rated QBs out of high school that can't seem to develop in this "program" while other QBs from there class are developing at other programs.

What a load of BS. This:
quote:

was able to attend thurs practice and yesterdays scrimmage...

Does not translate into this:
quote:

he also said he is able to communicate with SK about reads, audibles, etc like he was never able to w GCrowton..and this, more than anything, may be the most important aspect as his confidence is sky high..

There is no way you can attend 2 practices and know the differences in communication, confidence etc. And since your first post ever on the Rant was about JJ and how:
quote:

He will do LSU and their fans, coaches, and administrators proud whenever he puts on a uniform ... That i promise.

As the worst SEC QB of the last two years, I promise that JJ has yet to make many people proud. You're just a JJ apologist, and fans should really expect just more of the same from JJ this year.

it isn't reasonable to expect people to forget the 2nd half of UNC, the Vandy and WVU performances, or even the Arky performance later in the year...

I don't expect some "people" to forget anything. We have those who still hold JH's mistake in the R name call during the "Bluegrass Miracle "against him.

All I'm saying is I'm personally some what hopeful for seeing better QB play from JJ due to his overall play starting with Bama and Krag's influence. If I'm wrong, it will not be the 1st time for me.

As to Arkansas and understanding LSU wins or loses as a team, but when the D gives up 3 plays for bout 200yds and 3 TDs...well, that's tuff to overcome on the road no matter the QB and yes, I know JJ made mistakes as well. imo

I believe we are in total agreement, really.

But with regards to Arkansas, I was strictly referring to JJs play...not the team's play as a whole...and certainly not the defense. The defense played like chit against OM too, but JJ played well. Against Arky, he did not.

My point was, it brings into question ones objectivity if you single out certain games and claim 'toward the end of the year' he played better...yet leave out the final regular season game.

TISugger--im not a JJ apologist, i coached the kid in high school and am a supporter of the young man, unlike you who has never thrown a football or had to read a defense let alone a playbook, and gets off on bashing young men who do...that being said, it was very possible for me to see a drastic change in Jordan in just a few months time...will it translate into a natl champ, who knows?? but at this point he gives us the best chance to do so>>

What was so bad about JJ in the Arkansas game?

16/27 (59.3%), 6.8 ypa, 184 yards, 116.51 passer rating, 0 TD, 0 INT

Not great numbers but not bad either.

By passer rating it was his 5th best game of the year, by completion percentage his 6th best, by yards his 2nd best game of the year.

Basically, better than he played in most of the games last year.

Thank you for your input.

JJ and JL are solid young men that have had to deal with a lot of criticism and fan abuse. No one knows how easy or difficult it is to play the QB position under Miles and Crowton against SEC defenses. I'm sure it wasn't a picnic. Hopefully, we'll have less confusion (between coaches, qbs, wrs, olinemen) and more chemistry between Miles/Kragthorpe.

TIusGGER you are an idiot he said JJ said that he was able to communicate better with Krags than with Crowton on things that the QB needs to completely understand. I hope he lights it up just so people like you can shut the frick up.

Even though I appreciate the update and the observations of practices you are about to get a bunch of posts from the unintelligent rantards on the board that hate anything positive said about JJ.
Not really, but people need to be honest with themselves about what JJ is and ISN'T. He's a senior for christ's sakes and has never stood out. Do you really think he's going to be all SEC this year, or just able to manage the game? I like the kid, but good grief, he's not beyond criticism.

.For starters Kragthorpe is just what JJ needs..has technically improved Jordan in every aspect--footwork,release,simplifying reads,etc..he looks as comfortable as he has since he left Destrehan..quicker release, tighter spiral, you name it, its improved..he also said he is able to communicate with SK about reads, audibles, etc like he was never able to w GCrowton..and this, more than anything, may be the most important aspect as his confidence is sky high.
Music to my eyes and ears.
