Ewers and Dart are NFL career backups. He should stay.

Has he watched Nuss play?

A QB coach would have to teach Nuss all new technique. And how to read coverages.

Is this QB group that bad?

There is a lot that Nuss could improve upon by staying another year.

Nuss has no shot in the NFL absent some miraculous turn around.

ETA: Can you imagine Nuss facing an NFL pass rush?

#5 QB in this draft probably goes top part of round 3. Can he improve that by coming back?

Maybe. But him having a better statistical season is certainly no guarantee. A lot will depend on who BK brings in as OC/QB coach. Maybe more will depend on how they piece together the OL to at the very least be able to keep inside pressure from
dominating and forcing Nuss into his default of retreating back 15 yards on every play, oftentimes throwing 30 yard balls in the air that barely get 3-5 yards past the LOS.

Our WR room is not very good currently going into next season. That’s a factor. But the biggest two kinda go hand in hand. Does Taylor leave or stay? That’s a big deal that could go either way. Don’t think Pimpton is prepared to take over for him without missing a pretty big beat.

And finally, there’s the risk/reward piece. What if he comes back and tears his ACL in September. And the obvious glaringly bad QB class for this year’s draft. Yeah, he could come back and get better—and I’m sure he will. But he could be a better QB with worse stats and find himself rated much lower if the ‘26 NFL QB class winds up being better than the ‘25 one. If he only drops from the # 5 overall QB to the #7, that could be a huge difference in where he gets drafted. With a lot less money and an extra year before he gets to his 2nd deal.

There’s a ton to think about and work through. I think Nuss and Doug would both prefer he come back in a perfect world. But the advantages of leaving this year may wind up being too much to give up. We’ll see. I do think he has to right the ship and play these last 3 games at a significantly higher level to keep these options open. If he continues to struggle, he’ll drop down the draft boards so fast that the decision will then make itself.
