You can not be serious. Nobody in their right mind thinks our run game is on par with Bama's rushing offense last year. Or Bama's rush offense this year for that matter.

So I guess we can't critique the one position in the offense that is below average (QB) because the other units on offense are not top 10?

What a dumb position.

Let me break it down for you. We have an above average O-line and running game. We have a bevvy of athletically gifted WRs. We have a QB that can't make this offense move because defensive coordinators laugh at the thought of him making a play. I don't know if Lee is better. But I know that with JJ, the question for the season is whether we lose 3 or 4 or 5 and that with a serviceable QB (read McElroy, Flynn) we have a chance at an SEC title.

With JJ, we're playing for second place in the West. This is inarguable.

Is our oline and RBs anything like Bama had last year?

Not even close. Bama has the best OLine and RB's in College football and has for the last 3 years.

We're 4th in the SEC in rushing and dead last in passing. And you want to blame rushing for our offensive woes.

When LSU doesn't rush for 100 yards, it's highly likely we'll lose. And I haven't seen enough this season to convince me that the run game is that much improved from last year. I hope I'm wrong. But I think we should be far more concerned about that than whether or not we have can throw the ball downfield.

Wait, you mean to tell me (according to your chart), that our passing offense was better in 2008 under J Lee? hmmmmm.......

All while carrying the worst defense of the decade. hmmmm........

Thanks for the chart.

Alabama averaged over 400 yards per game last season. LSU last season? 300.

And in our 3 losses, we failed to rush for 100 yards. Granted, two of those losses were to the two best teams in the SEC (and arguably the nation), but if you can't run for 100 yards against a top team then you don't have a championship caliber run game. Florida had little trouble gaining 193 yards on the ground against us and Tebow only threw for 134 yards.

When LSU rolls us some ground yards against a top flight SEC school, maybe I'll change my mind. But for now, I say our run game is only good enough for 8 to 9 wins tops. And I'll be perfectly happy with that outcome.

You realize he's talking about TOTAL offense and not rushing yards right?

I'm discussing rushing offense, not total. Through 3 games this year our rushing attack is on par with our 2007 version.

The OP is a JJ fan fighting with LSU fans.

Have y'all seen our defense play better than last night is quite some time. And we can't even score more than 2 TDs. We're wasting Toliver and Randle. Absolutely wasting them. Bama has Richardson and Ingram. They get them the ball.

Oh for the days when a QB could throw for 200 yards.

Bama's offense kicked a ton of FGs last year. Do you not watch college football? Didn't a poster do a run down that showed we scored on every possession but two? That's good no matter how ugly it was.

Until we play some top SEC competition instead of the bottom feeders, it's pretty damn hard to say how good our run game really is. But I wasn't very impressed with the run game against Moo State. If we didn't gain 100 yards against Bama and Florida last year, I didn't see anything on Saturday night to show me that we're that much better this year.

If we can't rush for 100 yards, we will not beat top SEC schools.

Bama's offense averaged over 200 yards rushing on the season for all 14 games against a variety of competition.

LSU has done so against some of the weaker opponents on our schedule and actually only broke 200 yards in once this season. Actually we've only broken 170 yards once in 3 games. The vandy game is looking more like an aberration than the norm so far.

Vandy game = 280 yards rushing.

UNC = 162
MSU = 167

Our running game is definitely improved from last season, but I am not taking one big game against a Vandy team as saying our running game is top notch.

Yeah, let's compare Bama after they played Duke and San Jose St. to LSU after we played Moo State, Vandy and UNC minus half the starters on defense. But even if I allow you that comparison, on fumbles alone we don't compare to Bama's rushing offense.

To combat that negative spin.. how about me saying we've been over 160 yards in all 3 games, and over 275 yards once. We'll rush for close to 200 against WVU.

I certainly hope so, but they are the best defense we'll have faced to date. Here's to hoping.

You're right. I am humbled by your super awesome analysis of our 3 games against 2 SEC bottom feeders and a UNC defense missing half its starters. You've convinced me that our rushing game is on par with Bama. Wow, wasn't Ridley just awesome against Moo State? All those TDs he scored just floored me. I'm gonna go get my "RIDLEY -- BELIEVE IT OR NOT? -- FOR HEISMAN" shirts printed up ASAP.
